"8 Women" is a story of intrigue. The eight women on the stage are simply a condensed version of the entire French film history, but they can compete with each other without remembering the rankings and roles. Many filmmakers dare not even think about it extravagance. The most rewarding aspect of "8 Women" is director François Ozon's ambition to explore the film itself. It was originally just an Agatha Christie-style suspenseful reasoning story, but Ou Rong wanted to add the exaggerated expression of the musical. All 8 women sang and danced, and each segment of the song and dance was unique and beautiful. The characters also drive the plot, and the film seamlessly combines suspense and song and dance.
The film is full of ridicule, satire and exaggeration. It exaggerates the contrived style of Hollywood movies in the 1950s. Avoiding the plot aside, there are still many bright spots in the film's shooting techniques and handling. The first one is the eight song and dance performances interspersed in between. Although "8 Women" is not a song and dance film, these eight sections are indispensable. The innuendo lyrics and the ambiguous and blurred actions seem absurd, but they are sobering. The eight women's distinctive dresses all more or less express their own experiences and personalities. The simplification of the scene often causes visual fatigue, but the director's bold shooting techniques and fascinating storytelling methods have embedded this movie, which looks like a stage play, into the audience's brains vividly and deeply.
