The Godfather narrative festival

"The Godfather" is very well-rounded in narrative, and the half-hour wedding line is dense, which plays a key role in the development of the huge relationship network of characters and the plot. The several foreshadowings buried at the beginning of the film all echoed in the later plots, and what makes people feel novel is that these echoes do not determine the plot direction, but are connected in a grassy line. For example, the second time the owner of the funeral home appeared, after the godfather's eldest son Sonny was shot and killed, the godfather asked him to organize his beloved son's remains. Enzo, the son-in-law of the cake shop owner, appeared for the second time after the godfather was shot, and in the hospital he and Michael pretended to be a bodyguard to guard the godfather. These plots do not determine the direction of the plot, but connect the front and back plots, and merge the complex network of characters into a close whole; and this kind of echo is a common "benefit-reward" echo in classical narrative. The narrative rhythm is vigorous, and it is also an exaggeration to the characterization itself  .

The whole process was crying because the male lead was too handsome, clutching his chest. I really wanted to be Michael's sex slave. He was tied up with a leather rope, watching people who were loyal to him kiss his arm, and he was left with welts on the whole body with a leather belt.

The Godfather quotes

  • [Tom Hagen goes Christmas shopping, and meets Sollozzo]

Sollozzo: I want to talk to you.

Tom Hagen: [stepping aside] I haven't got time...

    Sollozzo: Make time, Consigliore!

[Hagen finds himself trapped between Sollozzo and a hood]

Sollozzo: What are you worried about? If I wanted to kill you you'd be dead already. Get in.

    [a car drives up]

  • Clemenza: Paulie, pull over, I gotta take a leak.
