It was definitely a groundbreaking good movie in that era, but it obviously couldn't please the current audience. All discussions about human nature are given in dialogue, and they come from beggars and woodcutters. Several actors headed by Toshiro Mifune, their acting skills are almost as superficial, exaggerated, and slow as they were during the "Seven Samurai" period. In the part of human nature, I believe that the original work of Akutagawa Ryunosuke will be analyzed more deeply.
