    When he was a boy, he aspired to become an actor. In the 1980s, he began to play some small roles in movies and TV, until he starred in the film " Northern Lights " (STREAMERS) in 1984, and won the Golden Lion Award for Best Actor at the Venice International Film Festival in recognition of outstanding performance of co-actors. Nine years later, with " Short Cuts " (SHORTCUTS), he won the Volpi Cup for the Best All Actor Award, and the film also won the Golden Globe Best All Actor Award. HBO's "AND THE BAND PLAYED ON" (AND THE BAND PLAYED ON) has won the Golden Globe and Emmy Awards nomination respectively.
