    Walter, born in poverty. Matthew was born in New York City, and at the age of 11. Worked as a broadcaster in the Air Force during World War II . After the war, he entered the new school drama class for training and began acting in a fixed theater.The status of a small supporting role has gradually risen to the protagonist. In 1965, he became a star of the stage when he starred in the drama "Weird People and Strange Things". In 1966, he won the 39th Oscar Award for Best Supporting Actor with the film " Flying Fortune ". In 1971, he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for "Coach"; in 1975, he was awarded the Best Comedy/ Musical Film Actor Golden Globe by the Hollywood Foreign Journalists Association for his leading role in "Sunshine Boys". Best actor nominated for the Academy Award, became Hollywood’s in the 70s. He died of a heart attack in Los Angeles on July 3, 2000, at the age of 79.
