Some thoughts on Hong Lingyan and Black Swan

After watching "Hong Lingyan", I was surprised that a movie of this level could be made in 1948, and I couldn't help but think of "Black Swan".

It's not fair to divide these two films, although I do have a good point in my heart, I'll just share my thoughts here.

"Black Swan" uses ballet as the background theme, but mostly half-length ballet shots are used from beginning to end. It is understandable that non-professional dancers need to use this to hide their ugliness, but after...

[Film Review] The Red Shoes (1948) 7.9/10

“One of the most factitiously gorgeous movies of all time, but there is a catch.”

If there is a poll of the most factitiously gorgeous movies of all time, Powell-Pressburger's THE RED SHOES will no doubt be surmounted on the top tier, for its kaleidoscopic use of Technicolor, highlighting the minutiae of its personages' fine complexion under sublime warpaint ,...

      God refuses to dance

"Ah, what beautiful red dancing shoes" one sentence made Garen jump from the bush of thorns to the executioner's knife. "Why do I dance, like why you live", let Peggy jump from the top stage to the shattered track. Intertextual with Andersen's most bizarre fairy tales, and against the most gorgeous and fantastic stage of ballet, "Hong Ling Yan" is a modern fable. Whoever wears red shoes and greedily dances at the feet of God will fall into the abyss. until the feet are cut off....

      red dancing shoes in drama

Two men with personality flaws, and a woman with a weak will. Lermontov has a strong desire for control, does not understand love and is extremely squeamish; Julian is selfish and regards art as a child's play; and the poor heroine, who loves both love and ballet career, is in two maddened. Under the coercion of the man's two phases, he finally ended his life. Art is great, and love is also great. If one of the two is willing to put down his posture a little and be considerate, there will be...

It's not a tragedy that someone could have caused

Some people say that her husband Julian is the creator of this tragedy, but love is inherently selfish, especially in a triangular story with such a "rival in love", the selfish nature of love is unavoidable.

The love between the two young people was so beautiful at the beginning. Maybe it was the blonde hair of Julian's actor that I liked it. In short, as a bystander, I couldn't bear to break up this pair of mandarin ducks. Not just me, all the witnesses are, except the boss...

1948, above translation. "Black Swan" pays homage to the original. In the middle of the nearly 20-minute drama, the choreography and special effects are extremely good. It is said that there is finally a musical that can keep me from falling asleep.

The lighthearted and cheerful parts in the front are beautiful, and the legendary song and dance drama with red shoes did not disappoint me. The tragedy in the back is not my favorite, there is no need to make the contradiction so...

For the sake of art and love, the old Chinese saying goes that loyalty and filial piety cannot be both. In this film, love and art cannot be both. In the end, the heroine chooses to commit suicide, which is embarrassing. Cheng Dieyi's suicide at the end of Chen Kaige's "Farewell My Concubine" is probably influenced by this movie, because it is not in the original book - Film...

    Evaluation action

"The Red Shoes" is a film that was shot in strong colors before color technology was fully promoted. After its release in the UK, it immediately attracted attention. People were amazed at how beautifully dance, music and film performance can be combined. Most of the stage performances in the film did not appear boring because of their professionalism, but because of the two directors' scheduling ability and picture imagination, the...

    • [Describing the ballet of the Red Shoes]

Boris Lermontov: The Ballet of the Red Shoes is from a fairy tale by Hans Andersen. It is the story of a young girl who is devoured with an ambition to attend a dance in a pair of red shoes. She gets the shoes and goes to the dance. For a time, all goes well and she is very happy. At the end of the evening, she is tired and wants to go home, but the red shoes are not tired. In fact, the red shoes are never tired. They dance her out into the street, they dance her over the mountains and valleys, through fields and forests, through night and day. Time rushes by, love rushes by, life rushes by, but the red shoes go on.

Julian Craster: What happens in the end?

Boris Lermontov: Oh, in the end, she dies.

    • Boris Lermontov: How would you define ballet, Lady Neston?

Lady Neston: Well, one might call it the poetry of motion perhaps, or...

Boris Lermontov: One might. But for me it is a great deal more. For me it is a religion. And one doesn't really care to see one's religion practised in an atmosphere... such as this.

    • Boris Lermontov: Why do you want to dance?

[Vicky thinks for a short while]

Victoria Page: Why do you want to live?

[Lermontov is suprised at the answer]

Boris Lermontov: Well I don't know exactly why, er, but I must.

Victoria Page: That's my answer too.
