A year earlier than Ku's "The Killer" and Melville's "Fever," Dassin is a shit! The plot rhythm and character rhythm are beautiful, the sharp transition between the two parts, the final editing and the closing. And women, women in old-fashioned gangster films are always dragging their feet, and Dassin is a little weaker on this point. But it has to be still exciting, especially in the first half of the stealing process.
