"The Centurion": the ancient war that never gets tired of

The film tells the story of the most mysterious Ninth Army in the Roman period. The Ninth Army was the most victorious army in the Roman expedition to England, but it mysteriously disappeared on the land of Britain in history. "Centurion" is about the thrilling process of Quintus Dias, the centurion of the Roman army played by Michael Fassbender, being captured by the Picts-fleeing-being rescued-and then fleeing. An epic film describing historical wars, the plot rhythm is very similar to a monster thriller, and you continue to enjoy the thrilling chasing process.

History, war, and cold weapons are the background of this film, but the battle scenes are dominated by small-scale fights. The biggest scene is that the Ninth Army is ambushed by Picts, with fewer than 100 people participating in the battle. From this perspective, "Centurion" may not be regarded as an epic movie in the true sense, but the real, bloody, sword-to-flesh fighting scenes and thick themes still possess the characteristics of an epic film.

As a soldier officer, Quintus Diaz is the absolute protagonist of the film, and all the stories are developed around him. The arrangement and narration of the lens is also known as the visual by Quintus, and the inner dialogue of the hero has repeatedly appeared as the prominent theme of the film.

Most of the themes with Rome as the background of the story are positioned in the story of aggression and resistance, and this film is no exception. The invasion of Great Britain by the Roman legions created a long-term war between the Romans and the Picts, and also caused endless hatred between the two nations. In such an era, there is no absolute justice or evil. No matter how brutal the barbarian Picts are, they are only to protect their homes and survive. The offensive and killing of the Romans was also an inevitable move to maximize benefits under the foundation of a powerful force. The difference is that the Picts are fighting for themselves, and the Romans are fighting for interest groups, but the ruling class bestows a certain degree of honor on the Roman soldiers, adding some spiritual color to their fighting work. From now on, we can deeply understand that there is no essential difference between right and evil in human society. The key is the difference in strength. The winner is the king and the loser is the invader. Strengthening oneself is the eternal theme of mankind.

From a social point of view, backward countries can only be bullied and invaded, and powerful countries can choose to expand or prosper and stabilize. From a personal point of view, the psychological attitude and behavior in the survival state reflect the difference in personality. The difference in personality determines the good and evil of individual human beings. Some people regard faith and friendship as the core of life, and sacrifice their lives for commitment and friendship. Some people have survival as their ultimate goal, and they can do whatever they can to survive. The complexity of human nature is one of the characteristics that distinguish humans from animals. Different people have different pursuits. As long as they are faithful to their own needs, there should be no distinction between right and wrong. The saddest thing in life is to serve one's own life for the purpose of others. This point of view seems to be the subject of every war movie. Therefore, the happiest thing in life should be to live for yourself and to constantly pursue your own happiness. Quintus, who was chased by Rome at the end of the movie, returned to the mountains to look for the "witch" who was also abandoned by the tribe, and he expressed this attitude well.

The plot is too fast, and there are some unreasonable points. Generally speaking, it is a relatively delicate little story.
