After watching Hidden Figures, I was moved by the three colored women scientists, due to their ambitious passion towards science exploration and their willpower towards discrimination! I am glad to share four reasons why I am fond of this excellent and meaningful movie.

To start with, the movie is derived from a real case, which is several colored women scientists working in NASA and their hard working to success and equality despite others'discrimination towards them. The movie reflects the history of Black Feminism Movement, which successfully combines history with art, and makes the movie easy for audience to understand the main idea the director wants to express.

Besides, an essential and influential thing arisen is the discrimination colored towards people should be stopped. In contemporary society, the negative phenomenon still exists. Take a piece of news as an example, an American white policeman shot an innocent black male for no reason three years ago. It was such an astonishing incidence that shocked plenty of people in the world. A big crowd of people criticized the bad American policeman's cruel behaviour and felt pity for the black man's death. So the movie fits the reality of life and calls on people to treat black people equally and make efforts together to cease the discrimination in order to create a more peaceful and harmonious society.

In addition, I am impressed by the three black women scientists pretty much! Although some coworkers give Catherine wrong and incomplete figures files on purpose and they intend Catherine to calculate in vain, she doesn't give up and work out the answers correctly and successfully . Via her perseverant efforts, she is allowed to enter the inner meeting and present her own propose, which successfully help American astronauts safely reach the moon and return safe and sound. Mary and Dorsey are motivating and inspiring as well. Despite that Mary intends to apply for a higher position in the NASA, her supervisor sets several difficult rules for Mary. In order to get a high job, she struggles for entering white people high school and asking a judgement to change the situation that colored people can't enter white people high school. Through her efforts, she finally enters the high school and earns the credit required for the job.

Last but not least, it is the splendid movie that teaches me to work diligently to achieve my dream no matter what will challenge me. As the old saying goes, where there is a will , there is a way! Devoted myself to learning and working hard, I am quite sure that my dream will come true!

What makes me feel the deepest about this film is not the racial discrimination faced by black mathematicians, but the vast majority of ordinary white people not only turn a blind eye to racial discrimination, but oppress others spontaneously and voluntarily. Except for a few whites, no one offered a helping hand to these black women, not even smiling faces. Racial oppression is the responsibility of the entire nation and society, not just the responsibility of a few in power or the state apparatus.

Compared to Hacksaw Ridge, this is the benchmark for the main theme movie in my mind

Hidden Figures quotes

  • Mary Jackson: I plan on being an engineer at NASA, but I can't do that without taking them classes at that all-white high school, and I can't change the color of my skin. So I have no choice, but to be the first, which I can't do without you, sir. Your honor, out of all the cases you gon hear today, which one is gon matter hundred years from now? Which one is gon make you the first?

  • Katherine Johnson: There are no colored bathrooms in this building, or any building outside the West Campus, which is half a mile away. Did you know that? I have to walk to Timbuktu just to relieve myself! And I can't use one of the handy bikes. Picture that, Mr. Harrisson. My uniform, skirt below the knees and my heels. And simple necklace pearls. Well, I don't own pearls. Lord knows you don't pay the colored enough to afford pearls! And I work like a dog day and night, living on coffee from a pot none of you want to touch! So, excuse me if I have to go to the restroom a few times a day.
