The feeling that has not changed is that I still think that Jude Law (Dan) is so handsome, I really like Julia Roberts (Anna), and I still don't like Natalie Portman (Alice/Jane) very much. ——It's all about the actors.
But two years ago,
I didn't like Alice at all, and I
also didn't like Larry's toughness and mature scheming when he was angry.
(Anna: Why is the sex so important?
Larry: Because I'm a fucking caveman.)
Warmly hope that Dan and Anna are together, and
finally can't accept Dan's end up alone, and can't accept that Larry finally gets Anna again.
And all the likes and dislikes of all this have no reason, or I can't remember the reason at all now (or admit it, you have no reason to like his character because of Jude Law =)
two years later I 'm starting to like the original four people in the
Clive Owen
show. I went from liking Dan and Anna to Alice and Larry.
I like Alice, I like her warm and magnanimous love, and the undisguised love and hate
(Alice: It's the only way to leave. "I don't love you anymore. Goodbye."
Dan: Supposing you do still love them?
Alice: You don't leave.
Dan : You never left
somebody you still love
It's the kind of freedom that comes back to New York alone.
And when Alice said at Anna's photography exhibition "It's a lie. It's a bunch of sad strangers photographed beautifully, and...all the glittering assholes who appreciate art say it's beautiful 'cause that's what they wanna see. But the people in the photos are sad, and alone... But the pictures make the world seem beautiful. So... the exhibition is reassuring which makes it a lie, and everyone loves a big fat lie." Fucked her, even though I understand that there is always a little girl's rebellious and cynical childishness to say such things.
Like Larry, the reason is still the kind of mature scheming, and love a person with a mature heart. I like his powerful purpose, the simplicity and straightforwardness of his loved ones, and even like his neatly dressed confession to Anna that he slept with others because "I don't want to say goodbye to Anna in pajamas." Begin to understand that Anna will be happy with him.
And Dan's end up alone (regardless of how handsome Jude Law is), I'm finally starting to understand that he's taking it upon himself. Look at how he let such a girl walk out of the house by herself after confessing to Alice that he betrayed her; look at him crying in Larry's operating room because of losing Anna one second, and the next second. And thank Larry for getting Alice's job address...he won't be happy with Anna, because both of them don't know what they really want (Anna needs Larry to strengthen her heart) . Being back with Alice will always hurt Alice again.
And Dan and Anna, but there is no way to hate them, because they are both real and cruel. In the
end, if marriage=love+truth, sex=desire+intimacy,
Love is an accident waiting to happen.
Truth is a game you play to win.
Desire is a stranger you think you know.
Intimacy is a lie we tell ourselves.
