American Graffiti (1973) I have heard of this movie a long time ago. If it weren't for its inclusion in the AFI100 list, I would not have had the opportunity to watch it.

The film tells the four young people's one-night carnival process. The four young people are very good high school classmates. Two of them plan to leave the city to go outside. On the last night before leaving, the four plan to have a good time. Youth No. 1 is a good student who has won a scholarship, but he is always hesitant to leave. While wandering, he saw a stunning beauty in a car, but because of the different driving directions, he could not find a chance to meet her. Next, he went to the former high school to participate in the dance party, and when he got bored, he got in the car of his ex-girlfriend. Youth No. 1 made a lot of affection with his ex-girlfriend in the car, but if angered by his ex-girlfriend's friend, he was kicked out of the car. Wandering around in the city, because they scratched a good car on the street, they had to be held hostage by them. The gangsters robbed things, and the young man No. 1 also made a contribution, and he was instigated by the gangsters to destroy the police car. Because of these feats, the gangsters decided to let him in and let him go. The No. 1 youth, who has never forgotten the character beauty, broadcasted a message looking for her on the radio. In the early morning, he took a plane and left the city after talking to the beauty. Youth No. 2 is the exact opposite of Youth No. 1. He wants to leave the city very eagerly. However, his open-ended agreement with his girlfriend hurt his girlfriend, and the two of them became awkward. From the high school prom, there was trouble until dawn the next day. Finally, the second youth decided to stay for his girlfriend, and the two finally reconciled. Youth No. 3 is a silly ugly man. After Youth No. 2 entrusted him with the car, he used this good car to lift a blonde beauty. They went shopping and drinking together, and went to the river to make friends together, until the car was lost, looking for the car, and fighting with thieves. In the end, although the blonde beauty knew that the young man No. 3 was bragging, she decided to continue to associate with him. Youth No. 4 is a strong man who likes racing cars and beautiful women. He hangs a girl while hanging out, but it turns out to be a little girl. He had to play with the little girl. When he met someone who always wanted to race with him, he scared the little girl away. Afterwards, they launched a fierce racing, and finally the fourth youth won. The movie is like this, telling a night of four young people.

This is a movie that looks very relaxing. It tells the nightlife of American youth, shows the current life of American youth, and expresses all the characteristics of young people in that era, such as confusion, impulsiveness, optimism, kindness, and various phenomena in that group, such as street chaos. Petty theft, separation of love, street racing, illegal drinking, etc. The content of the film is "American style painting" just like the name of the film. It records passages of American youth's "style" and is displayed like a painting.

I have watched too many film and television works about American youth, including current American dramas, the "Back to the Future" series in the 1980s, the "American Pie" series in the late 1990s, and countless numbers since the 21st century. Youth movies, so I already know a lot about the lives of American youth. However, compared with the films of the above period, there are not many youth films that reflect the 70s, and this film can fill this gap. It is a pity that the content of the film description is the same as that of other American youth films, or it can be said to be almost the same. Therefore, it can also be seen that the life of young people in American society has basically not changed in the past 40 to 50 years, and it is the same pattern. Therefore, in the process of watching the movie, I did not find any new and attractive places, but recorded the era like "painting", so I won't elaborate on these aspects.

Of course, each age still has its own characteristics. The feature in this film is the ubiquitous "Werewolf Radio", which is so interesting. All kinds of ridicules, funny phone calls, and various styles of music have left a deep impression on me. It would be nice if there were such interesting radio stations in my growing up. In addition, the features at that time also included racing cars and hanging girls on the street, which would not appear in the United States today. If someone dared to strike up a conversation with a beautiful woman on the street like in the film, they would definitely be regarded as a hooligan or mentally ill. Only Americans who have come from that era can find sympathy in this movie. This film records the characteristics of an era, probably this is the reason why this film was selected for AFI100.

The film also shows the confusion of young people and their yearning for the outside world. Regarding these, every young person has to face it, irrespective of the country or era. I don’t write much about this, because everyone understands the principle, and it seems to have written it before. As for the reason why the No. 1 youth decided to leave in this film, in my opinion, it is because of the "bad" things he did: he destroyed the police car, deceived the gangsters on the street, and deceived the people who funded him. He has no face. It's better to leave here and leave for a while. It was these blunders that changed his destiny, and that's what the director probably wanted to express.

Other aspects of the movie are commonplace. In addition to the many classic songs used in the movie, other aspects did not leave me any impression. Even the racing scene at the end is very short. It can be seen that this film is a small-cost production with limited funding. These can be felt from the scenes and pictures of the movie. For example, there are only a few roads for cars, and some places are used repeatedly. George Lucas was really shabby back then.

The actors in the movie are all unfamiliar faces. The mature look of the male protagonist Richard Dreyfuss is the most mature in the movie role, but he didn't leave me any special feelings. Ron Howard, the current great director, turned out to be one of the leading actors, and he didn't recognize him at all. It turned out that he was ugly when he was young. There is not a particularly beautiful woman among the actresses, which disappoints me. Looking at the look of the woman in the film, you can use the word "earth" to describe it. This is also the reason why I can't find a beautiful woman.

In general, a movie that records the lives of American youths is not particularly good-looking. It is only suitable for young people who grew up in that era.

Ron Howard was too pink when he was young, but it was a pity that he was disabled later. Why did George Lucas want to shoot Star Wars, how good it is to shoot literature and art. ╮(╯_╰)╭

Stopped and walked through every intersection, it is so similar, just to see who is with you.

  • John Milner: Shit! Hey, get down!

Carol: Hey, is this what they call "copping a feel"?

John Milner: What? No, get up, N-O. Sheezus.

John Milner: My name? Mud, if anybody sees you.
