Different from the American-style opening and closing scenes, this spy war film during the Cold War tells a story of looking for a spy in a calm and depressing way, and uses fine clues to figure out the clues of the final ending. If you haven't read the original work, it's hard to understand when faced with the complicated details. It takes a while to accept it, and you need to keep running in your mind to put them together.
It is impossible for the director to explain everything in about two hours. He can only focus on George Smiley and open up the life and work around him bit by bit. The performance is amplified, of course, Uncle GO lives up to expectations, is stable and old, and completes the task well. But at the same time, the characteristics of the rest of Circus' characters are relatively weakened. Whether it's the four suspects or Peter and Ricki who helped, each of them has a play that can be extended, but limited by time, it can only be passed in a glimpse, so we just know Peter simply Sad to break up with a gay guy because of work, Ricki's quick but very affectionate love for the mysterious woman, George's wife who came back to him after leaving him, Bill and Jim's indescribable friendship, Percy et al. The exchange of interests with the United States, etc... These auxiliary plots have evolved into more fine branches because it is too late to go deep, and it is easy for the viewer to feel that the film is fragmented. In fact, each of these actors performed very well, even the dumb little fat man named Bill, they did qualified homework in a limited time, but unfortunately the movie did not have the figure of a TV series, so they could only keep the big head and let the small head. .
I really like the cinematography of this movie, it fits the cool style of the movie very well. The camera, as a bystander, just slowly switches between several characters, recording their every move, without expressing any emotion. The only warm color only briefly appeared at the former Circus party and between Ricki and the woman who were in love with each other.
The ending is a bit mute, perhaps in a way a happy one. As Connie, who was also forced to retire, said, the good old days are gone forever, even if the enemy spy is found out, he doesn't want to know, just to keep the good impression of the past. But politics is always politics, and things like affection are ultimately no match for an order from interest groups.
PS After watching the movie, look at the poster, whether it is official or self-made, it is a bit of a spoiler~
