father's promise

Fatherhood is a commitment and responsibility. During the Great Depression in the United States, the frustrated boxer Jim's family was struggling. Jim's 9-year-old son was worried that his father could not support them and sent them away, so he went to the small shop to "take" a sausage to supplement the family. So Jim and his son made a mutual agreement: No matter how difficult life is, he will never take anything that does not belong to him, and no matter how difficult life is, he will never send his son away for foster care.

In order to fulfill the promise with his son and collect the travel expenses to bring back the children, he can even temporarily put down his dignity and beg for acquaintances. Facing his former partner, the clank man said with tears in his eyes, "I'm sorry, I really have no choice." He was afraid of disappointing and embarrassing his friends.

The children went home and excitedly turned on all the lights in the house. In days when there is not enough to eat, happiness is the "light of all houses". A child's definition of happiness is so simple.

Jim's family attended the birthday party of the lead child. The son couldn't hold back the cake, and said to his father sensible and serious: "I will eat it when we have it." The son remembers the pact with the father.

With the help of friends, he was given a chance to return to the boxing ring as a "sandbag" to make money. Jim, who was wisecracking a second for his friend's help in need, couldn't hold back his gratitude the next second, hugging each other and weeping.

Jim, who retired from boxing due to injury, unexpectedly won a fight against heavyweights. When he returned home that night, he did not forget to bring back sausages to the hungry family, and responded to his original promise with his son with practical actions.

He is a role model for the children. Never been crushed by injuries, never been crushed by life, never been crushed by opponents. Still able to smile when being beaten by an opponent in a title fight. This may also be his attitude towards life: laugh at difficulties and actively meet them.

He is known as the "cinderella man" (Cinderella style) in the history of American boxing, a man who has never been beaten - James J. Braddock. In 2001, he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

    Joe Gould: Now you're dreaming

Jim Braddock: ...and your grandmother, at the same time.

    Jim Braddock: Take 'em out!

Joe Gould: Then you're dead, you're down, you're gone, no chance!

Jim Braddock: Two hundred and fifty bucks?
