"Hero" review

The film's breathtaking imagery somewhat overshadows the content, which is where the film's imbalance lies. It is from the beginning of the hero that Zhang Yimou switched from focusing on content to focusing on graphics and form in many of the following films (in fact, his previous pictures were quite beautiful). In view of the artistic temperament of this film, it is still a film with a certain quality, but Jiang Langcai, who Zhang Yimou built against the background of the times, has inevitably been revealed. When an artist's edge becomes dull, he will involuntarily turn to extremes to save his unyielding dignity to a certain extent. This change of Zhang Yimou also partly reflects the collective helplessness and sadness of the cultural and artistic people of a certain era.
