the ghost

A rare suspense masterpiece.

The first half of the film is a little sluggish, but some content still plays a key role in the conflict that follows. In the second half, the rhythm is fast, and the soundtrack is a bit overwhelming, but it's easy to make people feel nervous. I think some lines in the film (preferably compared to English lines) and the text shots of some manuscript letters in the film are quite important.

The tone of the whole film is very dark, and there are many before and after shots, which are very interesting in retrospect. I like the design of the ending the most. It is said to have subverted the original book. It is a very Polanski ending, which is very meaningful.

A few understandings about the plot (there are spoilers, be careful)

1. Mike, the first writer, I think was framed on the ferry, because the ghost saw choppy water on the ferry twice. (Of course it doesn't matter how Mike died)

2. Regarding the murderer who killed Lang, I think this person is the CIA. Because at the tavern he knew very well that the ghost was working for the lang, and that night the ghost's room was searched. Furthermore, as a demonstrator whose son has died, he is too calm, he is just making an excuse for himself to be with the demonstrators and to monitor Lang in order to find an opportunity to attack.

3. The one-night stand between ruth and ghost is not for reading the script, but this does not mean that the scene is superfluous. First of all, Ruth's wonderful performance made Ghost doubt Lang's character, which laid the foundation for Ghost to easily identify Lang as a spy. Second, ruth is actually using ghost's words to see if he can see any clues from the manuscript.

4. I think it is not the foreign minister who is tracking the ghost at Paul's house, but the CIA. They are not trying to grab the manuscript, but want to kill the ghost at any time.

2010-08-23 read. The narrative technique is quite successful, pulling the audience's nerves immovably and vividly, and the story is told quite plainly, but it does not affect its suspense at all. At the end, there is a sense of the truth that comes naturally, and it comes to an abrupt end. Stylized and entertaining (or serious).
