First of all, as a movie that reveals the mystery at the end of the film, the mystery itself is not shocking enough.
The premise for horror films or thrillers to show the mystery in this form is that there must be a very shocking answer to the mystery, and most of the detective films that use this form of expression are mostly crime-solving detective films. The audience’s patience after being tricked by the director for more than an hour is very limited, and most highly rated horror or thrillers do not put the puzzle-solving moment at the end of the film (although they can delay how long how long). According to the needs of the plot, in the second half of the film, show off the appetite. Then the protagonist performs as much as he wants, so that the plot can be ups and downs and relax.
The Europa Report is more like a documentary than a movie. It is so entertaining that it requires more patience from the audience to complete the entire viewing process. Although compared to many sleepy movies, the overall structure is not dull, but it is also difficult to bring people up. And in order to take care of the reveal of the final mystery, many parts that can be displayed are deliberately erased, such as the front camera on the spacesuit. Especially in the later stage of the film, the Russian eldest sister named Katya arbitrarily went on her own way and finally fell into the ice river. Before she died, the light reflected in her eyes almost reflected the image of the monster.
And in many details, especially in the handling of scientific details, it is out of standard. As a hard science fiction film, basic logic and scientific literacy are the guarantee of the film's viewing ability, but the director is not rigorous enough in handling these issues. In contrast to science fiction movies like "Prometheus", the same lack of rigor does not affect the viewing of the film, because the audience is not going to go there. It can even be said that without these imprecision, the film would not even be able to proceed. What's more, the plot of the film itself is so wonderful that people can't be confined to these trivial details.
But for this movie, it is a different matter. When repairing the communication panel outside the cabin, the basic operating specifications were not followed at all, which is unimaginable in the process of aerospace operations. In the later process of dealing with the oxygen pollution of the spacesuit, Andre proposed a solution that made everyone's eyes shine, but this solution was finally abandoned. He can fully pressurize the advanced cabin and then help James take off the spacesuit. In fact, this method is feasible in theory and time, but in the film, he gave up without even trying, which is really incomprehensible. .
Miss Katja's falling into the water is also really unacceptable. She is not like a biologist at all, but more like a little girl who went to the wild to collect butterfly specimens. Tragedy happened without the advice of adults.
The crash of the landing module, the disappearance of various personnel in the later period, and the statements of similar work reports interspersed in the film were handled very deliberately, and they did not give people a natural feeling at all. The final sentimental turned into hypocritical, and the octopus on Ganymede is more like the electronic squid who ran the wrong set in The Matrix.
Generally speaking, this movie is not satisfactory. It is recommended to watch "The Catastrophe of the Sun", which is also a hard science fiction movie, which is superior in plot, logic, and handling of various details. The director should really put more effort into the plot and stop making such sensible and unreasonable mistakes.
