In the afternoon, I read a lot of the British Empire's imperial policies in the early 20th century for writing thesis, and studied the mentality of the colonists at that time. I didn't expect that the movie this evening was about "colonization".
In the beginning, the rhetoric of the cute aliens when they occupied the earth was completely racist thinking during the imperial period. "BoovRace" is smarter and more advanced than human beings. "Boov" can give humans a piece of land and then tell them how to live. Most of the remaining areas that have been developed are governed and lived by the "Boovs". Naked imperialist colonial thinking! ! Of course the ending is very good. The "colonists" had a silly head, which attracted fierce aliens to crusade, and as a result, the colonists were forced to abandon the earth. Moreover, under the influence of human beings, the colonist Oh realized his own ignorance and successfully made the Boovs accept a friendly and equal relationship with humans.
This is a Dreamwork cartoon, and perhaps it should not be analyzed as a movie with political innuendo. The film is adapted from a children's novel "The True Meaning of the Smekday". In the novel, the alien changed Christmas to "Smekday" because Smek was the leader of cute aliens at that time ("Traditional Invention" haha!) . It is mentioned in a book review that if adults come to read this novel, they will definitely appreciate the ironic meaning of the theme of "invasion of alien civilization". And I would like to add that adults who study the colonial world can indeed appreciate this irony, but it is not limited to the theme of "invasion of foreign civilizations."
The escape of aliens is very similar to the situation in which the empire left the colony at that time. When the cute aliens left, the "central government" was unstable, and the superficially fierce but soft aliens' attack on the earth was extremely reluctant and forced; although in reality the empire was withdrawn. It usually carries the aura of humanitarianism and freedom and progress, but in fact it is the result of the empires’ lack of strength and mutual checks and balances. When the aliens left, the earth had changed its appearance. All the things deemed useless (bicycles, toilets and other necessities) were destroyed, and the human life style was denied in various ways, just because it did not meet the needs of cute aliens; Isn't this the case for the colonists of imperialism? They use their own rationality to deny the farming methods they consider to be backward, abolish the so-called morally wrong customs and even beliefs, and leave behind mines and plantations that are difficult to sustainably develop.
Of course, it may be because I have been learning this knowledge recently, so I am too sensitive. After all, the movie is based on emotions, and children seldom think about how to make up for the trauma left by the aliens, or the powerful force of the cute aliens can help the earth instantly restore its original appearance. Unfortunately, the reality is hard to reverse.
Finally, I made a complaint. The domestic translation of this film as "Crazy Alien" is really drunk.
