Almodóvar's "Return" Volver

There is only one man in the film, and he died within five minutes...

I have always liked to watch films that describe the life of small towns in southern Europe. The stories are very small, but the human feelings are very strong. Antalucia is the sunny land of southern Spain. People's love and hatred are so straightforward, just like the heroine can't help singing the flamenco when she hears the prelude of the guitar - she can endure suffering, but not silence. Flamenco was originally a lyrical style unique to Gypsies. It was improvised by singers, musicians and dancers. The whole movie unfolds with such a melody, narrating the grievances of the mother and daughter of the two families and three generations.

If Shakespeare watched this play, he would still say, woman, is your name weak? These six women, weak but tough, glamorous and simple, sensitive and thoughtful but understand each other, they will protect their relatives and friends without being stingy with their lives. In fact, if you are willing to listen patiently to any woman around you, they will open the pages of their lives and tell you a legend that belongs to them.

This should be translated into "Killing Husband"

Volver quotes

  • Irene: Don't say that, Raimunda, or I'll start crying. And ghosts don't cry.
