Two Split Personality Reviews of "Lolita"

I often wonder what it means to be in love. When people are on top, everything looks like love. In other words, love is really just a momentary impulse. I love the most famous line in the movie She could fade and wither ,anyway,I didn't care. I would still go mad with tenderness at the mere sight of her face Looking at her, all kinds of tenderness flooded into my heart. She can be someone else's wife, have other people's children, can be polished by life, can no longer be ghostly, can be haggard and old. But I know she is her, and as long as it is her, I will still give me the greatest tenderness. Later, I saw others say that because this story is narrated from a male perspective, it is likely to be excused and beautified. From the male perspective, it is the young and lively America that seduces the ancient and elegant Europe. From a male perspective, Lolita is a witch, a goblin who can seduce people, so it is normal to be fooled, it is understandable, and it can be misinterpreted as love. But it is very likely that from Lolita's point of view, she is just an ordinary beautiful young and beautiful little girl who has a curious desire to explore sex. Her beauty is not a subconscious temptation but a natural one. I suddenly thought, let Lolita speak, whether this has nothing to do with love but a seduction, whether her world has collapsed thousands of times but no one has rebuilt her, is this just a "Fang Siqi's First Love Paradise"? Thinking about it makes me shudder. The person holding the pen has the right to speak, and the story may be completely different from the other person's point of view.

There is hardly a single erotic scene, but from the beginning to the end, I feel the endless erotic lust and ambiguity of the soul, which is really unfinished. Kubrick's version of Lolita satisfies every man's spring dreams and fantasies. Who wouldn't be willing to fall into it and be unable to extricate himself? !

Maybe it's because I saw the sexier version of the remake later, so watching this Kubrick's original version is not very shocking. It may have something to do with the selection of actors. This old man looks like a bad old man, not as handsome as the one behind, so he can't sympathize with this character. Otherwise, in this original version, he just wanted to portray the negative image of the bad old man, and the remake was more willing to make him positive.

Lolita quotes

  • Humbert Humbert: Would you like me to read you some poetry?

    Lolita Haze: Sure, why not?

Humbert Humbert: This is my favorite poet. "It was..."

    Lolita Haze: Who's the poet?

    Humbert Humbert: The divine Edgar.

Lolita Haze: Who's the divine Edgar. Edgar who?

Humbert Humbert: Edgar Allan Poe, of course. "It was night in the lonesome October, Of my most immemorial year." Notice how he emphasizes this word. "It was hard by the dim lake of Auber, In the misty mid region of Weir" You see, he takes a word like "dim" in one line and twists it. You see? And it comes back as "mid region of Weir."

Lolita Haze: "Mid region," and twists it to "dim." That's pretty good, pretty clever.

Humbert Humbert: "Thus I pacified Psyche and kissed her, And conquered her scruples and gloom, And we passed to the end of the vista, But were stopped by the door of a tomb, And I said, 'What is written, sweet sister?' She replied, 'Ulalume, Ulalume."'

Lolita Haze: Well, I think it's a little corny, to tell you the truth.

Humbert Humbert: What do you object to?

Lolita Haze: Well, the "vista-sister," that's like, "Lolita-sweeter."

Humbert Humbert: That's very true. That's a very acute observation. If you were in my class I would give you an A plus.

  • Humbert Humbert: Charlotte, I haven't even had my morning cup of coffee yet.

Charlotte Haze: You want me to make you some?

Humbert Humbert: Please do that, like a good little wife.
