Gus Van Sant is one of the few directors who has always focused on teens, and in the film can feel what he sees as the everyday life of American teens. John is a young, mature, preoccupied, but a likable guy; Elias likes photography and is very open-minded; Nathan and Carrie are the standard athlete + cheerleader, and they are an eye-catching pair; Acadia is smart and beautiful; Kristen is a stunner Girls; Alex is a genius, plays the piano well, and is organized and meticulous; Eric is a jerk with no opinion.
