Yang Sanfeng's "Young and Vigorous" film review
1.
This film was selected by me as the best of 2015. It has beautiful pictures, fine shots, sophisticated composition, diverse soundtrack, and distinctive personality. There are many thoughts about life. As a post-director of "A Beautiful City", everyone has criticisms and praises. Fortunately, I haven't seen the director's work before, and it's not necessarily a bad thing that there is no before and after comparison.
The movie takes place in a high-end resort hotel in the Alps. Many celebrities, aristocrats and social elites come here to take a vacation and recuperate. The glorious past, it is difficult to stop time killing, and the vigorous beauty of Albis Mountain can hardly stop the inexplicable decay atmosphere in the hotel. The director used these complex emotions to make a fuss. The film involved too much content and gave up with handwritten film reviews several times. After watching the film two or three times, he sorted out a few lines and various elements and finally got some clues. For those things that can touch my heart, I always want to try to say something, bite the bullet and write.
2. The
film uses the different perspectives of two close friends, conductor Frederick and famous director Mick, to show all kinds of people in the picturesque high-end resort hotel near the Alps. Dabble on all kinds of people and various emotions, and have simple and in-depth discussions on time, life, friendship, affection, family, marriage, achievement and even faith, and the entertainment industry. The main line of the whole movie is not clear, there are many metaphors and satires, and it is composed of various people's living conditions and emotional bridges. It belongs to the group play, and every character in the show is impressive.
Although they have been friends and relatives for many years, the two elderly people have completely different worldviews and ways of doing things. Mick is still "energetic" despite the old age, and is quite sure that he is about to return to the pinnacle of director; but Fred is calm and willing to live a peaceful life and even refuses the opportunity to award honors and conduct royal concerts. We can try to briefly summarize the content discussed in the film, namely, youth and aging, longing and nostalgia, beauty and old age, future and past, life and death, love and hate, hope and fear...Of course these are not two. Meta-opposition, but interweaving and fusion, the director allows these sometimes simple and sometimes complex emotions and emotions to touch our hearts. It's wonderful.
The film is guided by two main lines:
The first is a series of psychological and emotional journeys of Fred's rejection, relaxation, acceptance, and final command of the Royal Concert. In fact, the emotionally frustrated daughter has a lot of complaints about Fred’s past treatment of her family, mother and herself. Her daughter simply vented the resentment of the failure of the marriage on him, but Fred did not teach and comfort her positively, but was quiet. She accepted her daughter's vent, silently watched her sleeping daughter at night, silently accompany her. As the daughter slowly walked out of the shadows, she also began to slowly understand how her father loves her mother and what love she wants, which leads to the core of Fred's interpretation of career, life and family. Ignoring the invitation of the Queen’s special envoy, Fred smiled slightly at the religious lady who took the initiative to show me in the elevator. He laughed at the lama who meditated every day and finally flew. He taught his children to improve his violin playing skills. He felt and directed the natural symphony of nature with his heart. He refused The publisher publishes his own biography, etc., all explaining that Fred is willing to put aside his past achievements and be an old man calmly, choosing love and hope. Maintaining the mentality of not being young but not aging; not being vigorous but not decaying.
The second is that Mick is still smug in the resort hotel and young people to prepare the script for his movie "legacy". In the end, the heroine turned back and the investment was cut. Mick ended her life with a sense of frustration. Mick never forgets his glory in the film industry, but he has long failed to understand the current world and film circles. The way Mick communicates with people is very straightforward and lacks a sense of humor. It is either teaching or lesson, which leads to his simple and rude way of dealing with things. He always pays attention to the prostitutes who often appear in the hotel who desire sex but are powerless. He teaches that the son who dumped Fred’s daughter was countered by the son’s new girlfriend. He talked about dramas and roles to popular young students, missed the past with various actresses, and firmly believed in Jane. Fonda’s firm emotions, in fact, he was dumped by his wife, had a bastard son, and his later film works went from bad to worse. Only the young screenwriters who regarded him as idols could see a sense of existence, and on the surface they betrayed his veteran actress ( Jane Fonda) is actually trying to retain Mick’s last dignity, but he does not understand the intention of the old actress, and eventually the crew is disbanded and Mick is gone forever. Mick is not reconciled to being an ordinary old man. He does not admit the reality that he can no longer make a good movie (I don't want to mention Chen Kaige here). In the illusion, every actress who was praised by him appeared on the grass, which was a farewell to Mick's past. He was lost in his glory and couldn't retreat, and finally chose hatred and fear. Although he is not young, he is still vigorous; although he desires to succeed but fears failure will make one lose his dignity.
There are many movie lines and bridges. Such as the emotional journey of Fred’s daughter, how the popular niche figured out the role of Hitler, the "bloated" life of the ball king Maradona, the underestimated Miss Universe, and the resort hotel who played somatosensory games massaging young girls (Reminds me of the ponytail girl in "Looking Back at Foolish Life"), the old couple who went to the woods with zero exchanges at the restaurant where their marriage survived, and the young prostitute who was accompanied by the "mother" sitting alone in the hotel lobby at night... It seems that the movie itself is messy and unspecific, but it is these multiple emotions that make the small world of the hotel have complex emotions.
3.
Mick thought that he was still young and vigorous, so he saw the glory of the past very close. In fact, those who were farther and farther away from him, he yearned for success, but repeated failures made him fear the future, so he walked toward death step by step. This reminds me of Kobe, who is still reluctantly on the NBA court. Although he is strong and does not admit defeat, his aging body can no longer support him to continue to win. It is vivid but looking back at the time, but it is far, far away. Realizing the passing of life is the best time that time gives us.
Fred's refusal of the Queen's invitation and no publication of his memoirs are all signs of his unwillingness to add glory to his body, and peacefully enjoying old age without missing work. This is more like the Spurs. Duncan, Ginobili, and Parker are playing team basketball. The years have slowed down their speed and weakened their bodies, but they used experience to make up for the aging with the team. They don’t insist on not going alone, and enjoy the time given to basketball. The charm, which makes them still the strong on the field. This is the best interpretation of time, life, and aging, and aging does not mean losing vitality.
Different lives at the same time, these lives are intertwined to form the human world. Looking back, my memory is blurred, and those things that I did especially for my children, they no longer remember when they grow up. Huge efforts will not return enough in return, which is inevitably disappointing, but it is enough to watch them still walking in this world. After all, parents will eventually become children's memories.
We have all made rash decisions in our lives, and people will not prepare everything in advance. But faults or failures are just the embellishment of your life. Give up some and you will get some. As long as your life continues, you must look forward to the future. Hormonal bursts in youth and countless female stars slept with life is a life, in old age facing naked Miss Universe gag is also a life, the strange thing is that this completely different life happens in the life of the same person over time and life.
No emotion will be ignored by life. The past you miss when you are old is the future he dreamed of when you were young. To put down is to pick up, and to meditate is to take off. The future is near because of longing; the past is far away because of nostalgia.
It starts when you are young and does not end with aging.

This time, Sorrentino extended the Ukiyo-e one-day tour beyond Rome. Behind the various celebrities in captivity in luxury sanatoriums in the Swiss mountains, there is a world of chasing youth and sparing no effort. The extremely coquettish photography in cherishing people's moving looks has been restrained, the arrangement of material elements is slightly trivial, and the expression lacks the moment that goes straight to the bottom of my heart.

Everywhere is like an ending: a film that tries to end itself, and in the end, it is not the lament of youth, but the discovery that every future must contain the past, and every old age must contain youth, this youth. And the past is endlessly imagined, always within oneself. Youth means emotions, so we use youthful spirit, which can only be expressed but not contained, and old age is the accumulation of emotions from emotions, which are difficult to express but not understandable.
