"I Am Black" is definitely not a simple movie, whether it makes you start to notice the flaws of the social welfare system, the coexistence of social indifference and enthusiasm, and the degree of making your tears...etc. A work worth seeing.
The story focuses on Blake, an unemployed carpenter with a heart attack, and Katie, a single mother of two raising their children alone, as they travel between agencies to apply for benefits.
I think the story structure of this film is very elusive. You probably know what will happen, but the amazing thing is that director Ken Loach made this film very vivid and very realistic.
"I Am Blake" is really a movie with laughter and tears, Blake's kindness will really warm my heart.
There are many scenes in the film that make people laugh, I think it is a kind of self-deprecation. When life is not easy, all you can do is to take him lightly, smile and let him pass.
I suddenly remembered the incident I saw Director Ma Zhixiang shared on his private ig a while ago. In short, the government used inappropriate words when introducing the aboriginal people and wanted to apologize casually, so some people may think "It's funny to be joking. Aren’t the aborigines very optimistic? Don’t take this kind of thing seriously.”
And Director Ma said something that made sense to me: “The optimism of the aborigines is not innate, it’s a joy in hardship trained by oppression for a long time. "
Blake is probably the same way. It
's not just because life is hard. In order to live, you can only have fun."
So although there are a lot of lines in the film that sound funny and make you smile, it's actually very sad to think about it in retrospect.
But maybe it's because Blake is suffering from the shortcomings of social welfare, so he also understands those who encounter difficulties in social welfare institutions: single mother Kathie is the stranger Blake encounters in social welfare institutions.
The reason why I am so moved is probably because I have lived in an indifferent society for too long, and it is a joy to suddenly see warmth.
Although the trend of the plot is as expected, the interaction between Blake and Katie really makes people believe that even if the world is cold, there is still warmth between people.
When the single mother Katie was down and out, Blake helped her and supported her when she was about to collapse.
Blake also encouraged her to complete her studies. When she was earning money to support her family, Blake told her: I will help you take care of the child, and you will Take care to earn money to support your family.
Maybe it's really no big deal for Blake, after all, he can't work and he has time, but his small act almost saved Katie and her child.
Children are not led astray by lack of company.
Katie can also devote herself to earning money instead of being unable to concentrate on her work because of her children.
So when Katie decided to make money to support the family in a more inappropriate way, Blake was very painful and heart-wrenching. He originally thought that as long as he was willing to give the time to help the family, then they should be able to live a less painful life, but The financial pressure made Katie breathless, and she could only choose such a quick way to make money.
In this way, she may have more time to spend with her children, not have to bother Blake from time to time, and also have some money to allow her to live a good life.
When I saw Blake go to Katie's to shop, I cried like a child, and I burst into tears.
I think for Blake, Katie is like a child of his own. He spends time helping them in the hope that they will have a better life. However, whether it is friendship pressure or financial pressure, Katie is more breathless. Not angry.
Blake, who was usually relaxed, could only shed tears of helplessness and heartache in the face of such a situation.
After struggling for a long time to get the subsidy, Blake decided to stop it: because a person can have no money, but not without self-esteem.
However, when he stopped like this, he really didn't have any source of money. In addition, he had been living on his old money, and Blake finally had to sell furniture to survive.
Just when Blake feels like he's losing his self-esteem, Katie and the kids hold him and give him strength: so they can continue to fight what they see as unreasonable.
It was not until after watching this film that I suddenly realized that there are many, many people in this world who are suffering from the flaws of these systems. How lucky I am to be able to sit in the cinema and watch this film today.
How many people are affected by our perceived convenience and
how many may be illiterate when we digitize many of the tedious steps?
How many people have never used a computer?
How many people are kicked around like a ball by various social welfare organizations?
So they can only warm each other, and then their next generation may go astray because they can't get a good education.
Daniel Blake is just one of the victims. The world doesn't seem to have given them a choice.
The only choice is whether they want to consolidate their dignity.
"I Am Blake" is really a great movie that makes you cry and make you laugh while also getting your head to think about the flaws of these systems.
On the one hand, it seems to help the disadvantaged in society to speak, on the other hand, it may also be to prove that even if the world becomes indifferent, there is still warmth between people.
There is a line that I remember particularly: "To ride the wind and waves, as long as there is a wind behind you that pushes you."
Blake and Katie are each other's wind, they support each other and accompany each other through difficult times; I hope, I also have The ability to become the wind of others, and I also hope that there is a wind that is silently helping me move forward.
I hope that in this increasingly apathetic society, we can all become someone's wind, give them a gentle push, and let them not forget that there is still warmth in this world.
