Love conquers depression

What I like about this film is that it gives hope. It shows how the support of family and friends can battle depression and self-destruction. If Sandra's husband was not there for her, she would have given up a hundred times the struggle for her job. He was right beside her all the time even though it was tough to communicate and reason with her. He never gave up on his wife even when she tried to commit suicide. Marion Cotillard's performance was absolutely spectacular, I could totally relate to her emotional breakdowns and her tremendous efforts to keep going and be alive.

As a person who is actively unemployed, I really can't find the excitement in watching this kind of film that fights for a job. What's more, the film didn't explain how difficult it was for the family, and why did they formulate such an unreasonable system of bundling voting and bonuses? The European people can't feel the dire straits, and there are no other highlights except for the heroine's skills. Repeating the similar scenes of door-to-door intercession over and over again is really boring.

Most of the "bad guys" in this movie are actually decent people. If they were placed in a poorer environment, I am afraid that some people would be willing to help her only if they asked the heroine to sleep with her. In a poorer environment, I am afraid there are still people who have slept and failed to keep their promises. So to a certain extent, human dignity is nothing but money piled up. I watched and thought, if it were me, I would definitely help the heroine. But that's just because I can afford to lose that thousand dollars. If I am short of this thousand yuan, I cannot afford the mortgage or the tuition for my children, then kindness and decency have become luxuries that I cannot afford.

Two Days, One Night quotes

  • Sandra: Everytime I feel like a beggar, a thief coming to take their money. They look at me, ready to hit me. I feel like I'm hitting them too.

  • Timur: Hello.

Sandra: Hello. Your daughter told me you were here. I was round at your place. I wanted to see you about the vote on the bonus and me being laid off. Juliette and I saw Dumont and he'll let us hold another ballot Monday because Jean-Marc influenced people by telling them that Dumont wanted to lay off staff anyway. So if it wasn't me who was made redundant it would be them... So... I wanted to ask you if... if you'd vote for me to stay on Monday.

Timur: [in tears] Of course I will. I'm really glad you're here. I'm so mad at myself for voting for my bonus. I'm sorry.

Sandra: Don't be sorry. I can understand. 1.000 Euros.

Timur: No. I'm ashamed. I even forgot what you did for me. Remember? When I broke those cells... and you said you did it. You remember.

Sandra: Yes, and Jean-Marc even said: "Fine example to set the new guy!"

Timur: I'm really glad you came.
