human norm

I couldn't speak for a long time after reading it.

How much ugliness can human nature reveal when given the environment? In addition to absolute power brings absolute corruption, it brings other thinking. There is no difference between the prisoners and the prison guards in the film. They have similar education levels, thinking abilities, and even parts of their characters. In an experimental setting that is far simpler than the reality of everyone's vastly different states, the fact that one party can use such exaggerated behavior and oppression on the other is just an absurdly formalized right. Whether it is the prisoner or the prison guard, they are all lost in it to a certain extent, and even justify their behavior. Are there any similarities between this and Stockholm Syndrome?

Returning to reality, how does a person limit his inner malice in reality? Is a broken mirror can't be re-rounded test really worth it? Is the reverence that religion speaks of fighting against this inner devil?

PS: Ladies and gentlemen, don't ask your boyfriend in the future, it's a question of who will save first when your mother and I fall into the water. //laugh

The Stanford Prison Experiment quotes

  • Jesse Fletcher: You brought me here to legitimize this experiment and there's nothing legitimate about this place, Phil.

Dr. Philip Zimbardo: You're right. You're right. I didn't explain it well. Prisons, they represent a loss of freedom, literally and symbolically.

Jesse Fletcher: Yeah, but that does not explain why they're wearing dresses. They're wearing dresses, Phil.

Dr. Philip Zimbardo: Yes, I understand. Uh, we're trying to strip away their individuality. Make them uniform. Feminize them.

    Jesse Fletcher: Feminize them?

Dr. Philip Zimbardo: Yes. Feminize them. Take away all the things that make them them. You see, we're trying to understand how an institution affects an individual's behavior. We're trying to do something... We're trying to do something good.

  • Karl Vandy: It's easy for you to say, 'Oh, I wouldn't have acted that way', but you don't know. That's - that's the truth. You don't know. And now I know what I'm capable of, and it hurts.
