The story of the film is adapted from real events. The editorial board under the leadership of Dr. James Murray will edit the new version of the Oxford English Dictionary. With the human technology level at that time, it will take a century to complete the compilation of the dictionary. Dr. Murray pioneered the method of national participation, allowing English speakers across the UK to collect entry definitions for the dictionary and send them to the editing team by mail. In the process of collecting definitions, they found that a doctor named WC Miner contributed more than 10,000 quotations alone, a workload that is difficult for a professional linguist to complete. When the editorial board decided to pay tribute to him, an astonishing fact came to light: it turned out that Dr. Miner, a military doctor in the American Civil War Army, committed murder because of schizophrenia, was confined in a mental hospital, and was a People who are considered lunatic.
