Weathering With You: A Metaphor for a Liberal Stance

Although ostensibly a romance, the political metaphor is strong.

Aside from the "special abilities" of the heroine, several of the protagonists in the film are ordinary people at the bottom of society. They do not have a tight and stable job and are exhausted all day long for their livelihood. The image of the police represents the defenders of the existing social order and rules. In their eyes, the most important thing is to ensure the authority of the government and the effectiveness of the rules, and no one can be tolerated to challenge the law. So they don't care, don't understand, and don't want to listen to what is going on between the male and female protagonists. After all, the truth is not important to them, and the fate of an obscure little girl is nothing compared to the vast, well-run state machinery. This tension between the protagonist and the police is one of the main contradictions of the film and the main factor that drives the plot.

Obviously, the film holds a strong liberal stance, so the male protagonist shouted a strong statement-"The weather or something, if it breaks, it will break." Finally, the male protagonist chooses to risk the risk of prison to save the female protagonist. The female protagonist chooses to live under the call of the male protagonist's love, instead of sacrificing herself to avoid Tokyo being flooded by heavy rain. In the end, Tokyo was overturned by the sea due to the never-ending torrential rain.

In fact, the male and female protagonists represent the vast bottom of the social order on which to live. Tight social order and huge state apparatus are based on their oppression and extraction. This is very much like what Marx said, the development of society is at the expense of individual development, but in a truly free society, the development of society is no longer at the expense of individual development, and everyone can achieve free and comprehensive develop. As the male protagonist said - the world was crazy from the beginning. In the movie, it is embodied in the fact that only when the heroine sacrifices herself, can Tokyo stop the rain and return to sunshine, and all order returns to the normal track. However, the male protagonist and the female protagonist finally chose to break through the shackles placed on their heads by this order and embrace a new life.

If Tokyo is submerged, submerge it, what does it have to do with me? If the world is destroyed, it will be destroyed. I still choose to be with the people I love.

Before meeting you, my life was cloudy; after meeting you, my life became sunny. I need you more than a clear sky. As long as you are there, every day is sunny.
