This is a film with a strong director's style. From "The Elephant" to "Psychedelic Park", director Gus Van Sant is showing the group of teenagers and the social phenomenon of juvenile delinquency with his unique perspective. Different from the way such films are similar to preaching, the director has always used a special audio-visual language and narrative technique to make the original gray and heavy story very "light", which is the quality of youth in the director's eyes.

The film tells the story of the young Alex, led by his friends, to the psychedelic park, the gathering place and crime-prone area of the city's skateboard teenagers in the east. He became obsessed with this park. Even if his skills were not very good, he felt that watching the skateboarding skills of masters would be very happy, so he would come over when he found time. However, the mistake made by the hot-headed one time brought him great pressure and pain - when he was "climbing the train" with his partners, they were discovered by the security guard, attacked and driven away by the security guard, and Alex was in a hurry. The skateboard in his hand hit the security guard, the security guard lost his balance and fell on another railroad track, and the train whistle was heard not far away... From then on, every day of Alex's life was a nightmare. Fright, fear, and confusion all rushed towards him. At the same time, he has to face the divorce of his parents, the interrogation of the police, the sexual needs of his girlfriend and the unreasonable troubles. More and more psychological pressure is burdened on him, so that he can only write his painful memories in a book called Psychedelic Park...

The film's narrative structure does not follow that kind of smooth linear narrative, but The non-linear narrative structure disrupts and reassembles the flat and straightforward story, highlighting the film's clear restlessness and unease. The grouping of paragraphs is not random, but follows Alex's psychological activities, allowing the audience to enter Alex's inner world and listen to the inner thoughts of young people.

In terms of audio-visual language, the film's camera and sound effects are excellent. The photography of this film has appeared on the credits of Wang Jiawei and other literary and artistic standard bearers. His name is Du Kefeng. His visual language is far more than what his lines have to convey to us. In this film, the lens is very bright, and the out-of-focus effect is used to bring out Alex's confusion and confusion. Extensive hand-held photography and the rough quality of analog video tapes accentuate the film's realism.

The shower part in the film is extremely brilliant in both picture and sound effects, showing a poetic beauty without music, and foreign media evaluated it as a "visual poet". The water in the shower head washed Alex constantly, his blond hair, his face, the slow motion of the falling water droplets, Alex lowered his head, the sound of the water gradually became louder and heavier and heaved again and again. Alex leaned on the tiles with birds and other decorations on them. In the sound of the water, birds and insects chirped again, and more and more sounds were mixed in, causing bursts of tinnitus. When the tinnitus dominated, Alex raised his head, and all the noise stopped at this moment, like an unbearable nightmare. This paragraph fully expresses Alex's personal feelings, which is real and delicate, and makes people feel the same way.

The letter-burning scene at the end of the film is also impressive. Alex put the letters with all the facts into the fire one by one, the burning fire as the main body, Alex as the accompanying body, the background was the darkened sky, and the firelight was printed on Alex's slightly haggard face. As the letters were put in, the fire got bigger and bigger, until it covered Alex's face, and the flames had taken over most of the picture. It's an open ending that Alex doesn't seem to face. Face your own faults, face the condemnation of your conscience.

The film does not reveal the deep-seated problems of society, but uses a gray story to create the inner world of adolescents, showing the repentance and confusion of this group after making mistakes. Just like the title of the film, what the director wants to do is to tell the audience the hidden truths behind the psychedelics about teenagers.
