Killer or mathematician?

The opening sentence of the film intrigued me: I'd rather make a mistake than do something!
This is also the motive for the murder in the beginning of the whole film!
Some people commented that they didn't understand it.
I'm not going to analyze this movie in terms of chaos, mathematical logic, or philosophical depth.
Just saying what I know about this movie!
Why is it not clear who is the real murderer?
Professor Selton admitted his words before saying that the real fuse was his sentence: you can try!
In fact, when Beth was holding the cello alone and crying in one eye, she could roughly know that she was the murderer!
If it's clear:
it's about a woman taking care of her cancerous mother for five years after hearing a handsome tenant say she could go and try to be free and kill her own mother!
Then go to seek a story of a mathematician similar to his uncle who successfully used logic, mathematics, and chaos to erase evidence of his own murder, and even exonerate himself.
