How did a 19-year-old boy get pushed into the center of power? How does a piece of clothing change a person's destiny? At the beginning of the film, Herold was just a deserter. After picking up the captain's clothes, he began to speak in the captain's tone. Then, on the way, he accidentally found that everyone thought he was the captain, and then included several groups of people. Attention, some of them have already seen the identity of Herold's fake captain! However, he did not expose him, because, perhaps, everyone was thinking, following this fake captain, maybe they could get something out of it.
The climax of the film gradually comes as Herold enters the Nazi camp, where he comes into contact with more people in power, but at the same time is identified. However, those in power did not intend to expose him, because his forged identity as a special envoy could change the current layout of power. As a result, the fake captain was recognized step by step, and then rampantly killed. Another detail of the film is that Herold's men use the rights of the fake captain to scavenge supplies for themselves and brutalize the prisoners. In fact, it can be seen that Herold is just a puppet. On the one hand, he is a puppet used by those in power, and on the other hand, he has to act in order to disguise his identity as a fugitive.
He has not lived like himself, but a real captain, and after holding power, he is dazzled by desire. The movie successfully created the image of the impostor. In fact, it is not just satirizing the last madness and chaos before the collapse of the Nazis. Even if it is not during the war, the fake success of this 19-year-old boy is not a revelation.
