"Foreseeing the Future" has no future

2007 was a prolific year for Hollywood action superstar Nicholas Cage. In addition to the introduction of the domestic "Soul Chariot" in the summer, he also starred in "Foreseeing the Future" and "National Treasure 2" (expected to be released in North America in December). But this year was also a bad year for him. After last year's "Pagan" starring in "Golden Plum Award" was nominated for the worst film and worst actor, the bad reviews of "Chariot of Souls" once again made people question his ability to select films. Fortunately, the quality of "Foreseeing the Future" released after "Chariot of Souls" has improved somewhat compared with the previous two films, and fans who like him have more or less hope of turning over him.

"Foreseeing the Future" and "Chariot of Souls" are both sci-fi commercial blockbusters. Nicholas Cage plays a man who can predict the future and has a special function in the film. This guy named Kreis is usually an incognito, but highly skilled magician. Because of a terrorist activity, she was noticed by a female FBI agent and asked him to use special functions to help the government prevent terrorists from detonating nuclear bombs. Since Kreis has been evading the chase of the government and scientific research departments since he was a child, he was fed up with the strange vision and various tests that his supernatural ability brought him when he was a child, so he refused to cooperate until he foresaw that the terrorist activities would affect his beloved people and The hurt of the city...

The plot of the whole film is relatively simple. But the rhythm of the film is extremely tight. After watching the 90-minute film, it makes people feel unfulfilled. In the film, because Kreis can only predict what will happen within two minutes, there are often scenes of Nicholas Cage looking at the watch to calculate the time in the film, which invisibly brings a tense atmosphere to the film. The infinite options for the future also make the film's science fiction full of colors. One of the memorable scenes in the movie is the various ways that Kreis foresees hitting up when he meets the heroine. The film repeatedly switches between reality and speculation, and cleverly stitches various speculations together, which looks mysterious and interesting.

Similar to "Chariot of Souls", Nicholas Cage still thrives in "Foreseeing the Future". Although many people continue to criticize him for "playing cool" in the film, his gloomy facial expression is quite in line with the character of the male protagonist in "Foreseeing the Future". Unlike the heroic image of the hero in "Chariot of Souls", Kris in "Foreseeing the Future" instinctively escaped the arrangements of fate at the beginning, unwilling to assume greater responsibility, even if he was forced to accept heavy responsibilities. He still chose to escape, until he foresaw the evil consequences of his escape in the speculation about the future. This is reminiscent of a line in "Spider-Man" "The greater the ability, the greater the responsibility". From this perspective, "Foreseeing the Future" should pay more attention to portraying the inner world of the protagonist. However, the fatal part of the film is that the character is too thin due to excessive emphasis on science fiction and narrative rhythm. This also makes the role played by Nicholas Cage flat and lacks three-dimensionality.

Hollywood blockbusters have always paid a lot of attention to storytelling. We are already familiar with and accustomed to the blandness at the beginning of this type of blockbuster story, the lengthy progression and the fierce climax at the end. "Foreseeing the Future" is obviously different from this kind of blockbuster: the film removes the "plainness at the beginning of the story", and is more like an incompletely edited work, without much advancement and development of the plot, and quickly presents a climax, and The film ends abruptly. This has also become one of the reasons why many fans criticized the film. But having said that, this fast-paced presentation is more suitable for people's demand for entertainment in the "fast-food era". After all, many viewers are already bored with the lengthy beginnings of many large movies, and they are patient and entertaining. (Zong Xiaopi)
