The Back of a Family-Impressions of "Kagemusha"

Japanese movies are relatively unfamiliar to me, but the names of several famous Japanese directors are still very familiar to me. For example, Kurosawa Akira, after just watching his "Kagemusha", the "skills" of this director I am already deeply impressed. I have only watched Kurosawa’s movie "Kagemusha", so I can’t compare it with his other works, but this film, which is not very exciting in the plot, was tightly grasped in three hours. With me, let me witness the decline and death of a family, and the helplessness of a shadow warrior.
The so-called shadow warrior is a stand-in, but this is not as simple as a stand-in for an actor. It is mostly a stand-in for important characters. As a shadow warrior, you must not only look like but also look like a god. You have to almost forget your original face and be another person substitute. The shadow warrior in the play is a stand-in for Shingen Takeda, a generation of Japanese heroes during the Warring States Period. After Takeda Shingen died unexpectedly, his chief minister had a shadow warrior to support the Takeda family for three years in order to keep the promise of no funeral for three years. However, as Xinxuan's younger brother said, the body is gone, how the shadow exists, after all, within three years, the back of a family will gradually disappear with the passing of its body, until it becomes invisible.
In this film set against the changing history of the Warring States Period in Japan, the director showed a strong ability to control the overall situation. Soon after the opening, he explained the whole situation very clearly at the time, which made me unfamiliar with the history of the Warring States Period in Japan. People who are very familiar also immediately understand the background, and then can quickly enter the attention of the plot. I have watched many historical movies or TV series. I often find that the plot has been going on for a long time, and people don’t know the background very well, so that after watching many movies, I feel confused and I have to go again. Search for background information on the Internet. The film’s portrayal of the characters is also in place, which makes me feel both distinct and lacking in individuality. The characters in the film express their personalities vividly in their words and deeds, but at the same time the director did not intentionally or unintentionally add a fixed image to them. , So I can’t tell whether each character is a traitor? Nengchen? Sage? After watching the Chinese historical dramas that tend to set the image of the characters, look at this film by Akira Kurosawa. He expounds events from a historical perspective, reveals the character of the characters, and looks more atmospheric, and his portrayal of the shadow warriors is more obvious. Out of his kind of humanistic feelings, he showed the Japanese culture and values outstandingly.
The best thing about the film is its performance in the war. It is said that Akira Kurosawa did not have abundant resources when shooting this film. It can be seen from the number of people who are too scarce in several places where the big scenes should be shown in the film. . However, Akira Kurosawa did not deliberately use the "human sea tactics" to show a battle. We have seen too many movies that show wars in panoramic scenes, and not many of them have achieved good results. Kurosawa Akira's display methods are very sophisticated, for example, constantly passing orders from soldiers on the spur to exaggerate the ever-changing situation on the battlefield. In the battle where the Kagemusha participated in the battle as Shingen, in the dark, it was wonderful to use sentries to continuously send orders to the enemy from the right and the enemy from the left to show the intensity of the battle. At the end of the film, the battle between Takeda Shingen’s son and Oda Nobunaga was particularly exciting. When the three troops of "Wind", "Lin" and "Fire" continued to fight and failed again, the director did not directly show how they were in the battle. It’s horrible, but every time a unit comes out, there will be a burst of fierce gunfire, and the camera will be aimed at the witnesses of the war: the expelled Kagemusha and the expressions of consternation and pain on the Takeda side, so that there is no need to directly show the battlefield. , The audience can also know the tragic end of the war from the painful expression. Then, it was a long time to show the horror of the post-war battlefield. The bloody soldiers, the horses struggling to stand up, and the fallen shadow warriors struggling to rush into the battlefield all gave this battle a more tragic color. In the past, when I was studying ancient Chinese, I read "Zuo Zhuan", which showed that war focused on pre-war planning and post-war summary. The battlefield was only briefly described from the side with incisive words, but the general trend of the war was clearly on the paper. Akira Kurosawa This is very characteristic in the war shooting of this film. Before the last stop, when Oda Nobunaga heard that the Takeda family had sent troops, the three words "the mountain moved" had already revealed the prospect of the Takeda family's defeat, which was wonderful. I think it’s hard to impress the audience by simply trying to show a huge battle with "human tactics". Kurosawa Akira’s war performance in this film more than 20 years ago is worth more. Many directors learn from it.
The fate of Takeda Shingen's shadow warrior is full of drama. He was originally a thief who was about to be put to death. He was only trained as a shadow warrior because Xingen's younger brother accidentally found that he looked like Shingen. His destiny changed. From then on, he was to be an "other". The Kagemusha was full of unwillingness at first, but perhaps because of the repayment and loyalty of the Eastern tradition, he became the shadow of the lost Shingen and the last of a declining family. A touch of back. He succeeded in playing this role until the three-year period was about to expire, but in the end he was found out by an accident, and he could only be exiled in despair. But since he became a shadow warrior, he has lost himself. He can't be himself. He lost his soul after losing his body. Therefore, he has to look at "his" heirs from a distance, and he has to witness "his" army sadly. For his failure, he will struggle to raise the fallen "him" banner until he dies and complete a "shadow" mission. Akira Kurosawa did not legend or romanticize the identity of "Kagemusi", but deeply portrayed the helplessness of a warrior who could only play other people, especially the kind of loss he felt after being exiled, and a person who lost himself. The bitterness shows naturally.
Kurosawa did not let me down. There is a reason why a master became a master. "Kagemusha" is indeed an excellent movie. It also aroused my interest in Kurosawa and Japanese movies. I hope to see more in the future. What a great Japanese movie, if so, "Kagemusha" will be more than just a movie for me.

Although it is not the best movie of Akira Kurosawa, it is the best as a samurai movie. There is no one!

[A+] "As fast as the wind, as gentle as a forest, as aggression as fire, and as immobile as a mountain" This sentence comes from "Sun Tzu's Art of War: Military War", and was later used by the famous Takeda Shingen and his military advisor Yamamoto Kansuke during the Warring States Period in Japan. Come to command the cavalry of the Takeda family, the strongest in Japan's Warring States period. Akira Kurosawa's films also embody this idea, and now, this sentence has become a supreme dogma of my film.
