"The Invisible Man": Wandering Between Life and Death

The film has given a new definition of "invisible man", and is no longer a scientific experiment object that can be invisible in science fiction movies, nor is it a blanket that can be invisible in a magical story. The Invisible is a human being between life and death in the film story, that is, when a person is dying, his soul will be separated from his body and exist in the world. The soul wandering between life and death is like being invisible, and anyone around can no longer see or hear its own voice. That is, only when the wandering soul struggles back from the edge of death can the soul return to the body again, and vice versa, it becomes a soul that wanders forever, that is, a ghost. Wandering in the world forever, although relatives are around, they will never be able to hug each other again.

The story of the film reminded me of a novel called "Lovely Bones". The girl in the book had died in a rape incident from the very beginning, and her soul began to wander among her relatives and friends. The saddest thing about the novel is that the girl only realizes the preciousness of family friendship and love after her death, and she slowly reveals many secret truths from her perspective. In the same way, the film was first adapted from a Swedish novel and made into a movie by the Swedes. It was then remade by American director David S. Goyer with his own unique understanding.

David S. Goyer is a new director who is shining in Hollywood, and a director genius who is good at directing fantasy movies. He has written for the action thriller film "Blade Warrior" series and "Batman: Hour of War", and personally directed "Blade Warrior 3". A director who has worked as a screenwriter and is familiar with how to compose a story is very suitable for controlling a movie like "The Invisible Man" that combines mysterious power, thrilling suspense, and moving emotion. David really lived up to expectations. Under his direction and self-understanding, although this film is a remake, it is full of strong American flavor. It is derived from typical American campus life and typical American family life, and is worthy of praise. Yes, this film is definitely not a movie with a mysticism gimmick that attracts the audience's attention, but only with mysticism as the background, focusing on the problems existing in American society today.

School violence, private drug money transactions, juvenile delinquency, problem girls, single-parent families, indifferent mother-child relationships... These typical modern American social phenomena are shown in this film. The protagonist Nick, an 18-year-old with literary talent, dreamed of committing suicide at a birthday party at the beginning of the film. The father is the idol in Nick's heart, and the mother is a typical business woman, who pays attention to order and planning in everything, even if the father's death, in this woman's heart, it will not have any impact on the growth of her son. On the surface, Nick is a top student in the hearts of teachers and classmates, and a good boy who never stays out in the mother's heart. However, the real Nick is a kid who helps people translate French homework to earn extra money in private. He is also a kid full of rebellion and a son full of hatred for his mother.

The heroine of the film, Annie, is a typical problem girl. Similarly, she comes from a single-parent family, and the death of her mother cast a deep shadow on the girl's heart. The declining father and selfish stepmother made Annie extremely disappointed in the whole world. In the whole world, only her younger brother was the only object she would love and care about, and her only hope. For the birth of a girl with such problems as Annie, it is obvious that the ultimate responsibility is still to be held to her father's disregard for the indifference of the family relationship. Therefore, Annie is like a terrible little beast, brutal and thorough. But such a arrogant and domineering girl in front of her is a fragile and desperate girl in private. Always wear dark clothes and a black stocking cap to hide and wrap your true self deeply.

Nick and Annie are actually the same people. The same family situation, the same experience, and the same package for the true self should have brought the two together. They may become friends because of mutual understanding of each other's hearts, and may even have love. But because of a misunderstanding, the two completely missed it. Annie killed Nick, and Nick's soul gradually walked into Annie. The intersection of the two unfolded in such a weird way. The murderer and the murdered slowly developed from hatred of each other to trust in each other. When the two enter each other's lives, two children in the same situation become each other's redeemers.
The weird and touching relationship between Nick and Annie is the most exciting and moving part of the film. A girl who could not save herself, but saved a boy who was about to die. A boy struggling on the verge of death, but with his soul state redeemed a problem girl whose soul had long been lost.

Whether it's Nick's mother, Nick's friends or other characters, they are very distinctive in the film. In the story full of dramatic tension, the character's interest and layering make the theme of the film sublime. This film is a surrealistic psychological thriller, and it also contains touching emotions between people and the truth hidden behind them. It comes from the truth gradually revealed by everyone's true self, and it is the true meaning of life found between life and death.

The characters in the film put on a mask of hypocrisy, and Nick can see the unknown real side of his life by the familiar people in the state of his soul. While saving his dying body, Nick also began to grow gradually, gradually recognizing the feelings and the beauty of the world that he ignored when his body was in good condition. The mother is not indifferent and sensible as she imagined, she is also a fragile woman, she who has lost her husband and is about to lose her son. Not the kind of toughness Nick thought, but crying hopelessly. Nick finally realized what his mother really looked like. I am also ashamed of why I hate my mother who loves me so much. All the reason and strength of my mother are actually just for him to grow up better. Similarly, because of Nick’s disappearance, the mother realized that her education method was too extreme within a few days and began to review herself.

I have been thinking about whether it is only when the person you love really leaves you that you start to regret what you did at the beginning, and the harm you caused to each other cannot go back in the end. How many words were not told to the other party, and how many hugs were not given. Only life and death are boundless, and only the disappearance of the body can make people see their soul thoroughly. What a sad thing that would be.

Fortunately, Nick did not die, at least he still has a chance to live well again, to cherish his mother's love and all the beauty of life. But, where's Annie? Before she died, Annie said that she finally did a good thing, but in the end she ended in death. Such a girl with a black stocking cap and golden curly hair is so beautiful but so regrettable and heartache.
