Sisyphus' sand painting

"Reincarnation" was last year's movie, and it was not released in China. It is another documentary filmed by American director Ron Frick following "Heaven, Earth and Xuanhuang". The film took 5 years to shoot and has traveled in 25 countries on five continents. It won the 2012 Berlin International Film Festival Critics' Best Documentary Award. And its Blu-ray disc has only recently come out in China.
This is a peculiar film. At the beginning of the film, in the Thiksey Temple in India, the monks drew a strange world on a huge colored sand table with fine sand sprinkled on their fingertips. At the end of the film, the monks stood in front of the sand paintings that seemed to have been completed, silent for a moment, and then personally destroyed the world created by them. The last shot of the film is the vast desert.
In the movie "Evil East and West Poison", Hong Qi played by Jacky Cheung asked Ouyang Feng played by Leslie Cheung: What is behind this desert? Ouyang Feng replied: It's another desert.
What is behind the office workers harvested by the ticket gate in the Japanese subway? It is a hen being harvested in a huge farm. The lives of hens are harvested by harvesters like unfeeling grass. In the next shot, they become chicken in the slaughterhouse. In the next shot, they become commodities in the supermarket. In the next shot, they become Food for obese patients in a fast food restaurant. In the next shot, obese patients show their ugly bodies in the hospital...
What is behind the crying Jews in front of the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem? Hundreds of thousands of Muslim pilgrims in Mecca; what is behind the mighty soldiers on the parade? It's robert henline, a severely burned army sergeant in the United States; what's behind the ladyboy in Thailand? It was a tear from the corner of a Japanese geisha's eye. They are two sides of the same coin, they are the past and the future of that sand painting.
It turns out that sand painting is not unfamiliar, it is the world we live in. "Reincarnation" tells the past and present of every grain of sand on the sand table. It took ten thousand years to paint the sand painting. When the monks reached out and erased the sand painting, the colorful sand grains that symbolized life were mixed together and turned into dead gray. They were put into a jar. They are the stone that Sisyphus keeps pushing, they are the book of sand written by Borges, and they are "Pulp Fiction" in front of Quentin Tarantino's lens. For them, the beginning is the end. , This shore is the other shore, time passes, the circle is not round.
This is a sand painting that will never be finished. Like Antonio Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia, the inability to complete is the meaning of its construction.
What is behind the ancient city of Petra in Jordan 2000 years ago? It is the ghost town of Kamensko, which was built in the last century in Namibia and was abandoned for decades. They have all become members of many human sites. The site 2000 years ago made us admire, and the site 50 years ago shocked us. Time is passing faster, and we are so close to the word ruins.
Unfortunately, Chernobyl did not appear. In the future, Fukushima may be selected for the next episode. In this universe, we don't know whether our home will become the next ruin from the next moment. The meaning of completion is not a building, but a site. Before the completion, everyone was the stone pushed by Sisyphus.
In the last shot of the film, the speechless Tai Lihua closes her eyes, and the compassionate Thousand-Hand Guanyin does not say a word from beginning to end, but has a panoramic view of all the mysteries of the universe. The mighty soldiers belong to her tribe, the workers who work mechanically on the factory assembly line are her tribe, and the pork that is efficiently dismembered in the slaughterhouse is her tribe. We are also members of the Sisyphus tribe. The gods of the West and the gods of the East are integrated. We are tribesmen with the obese patients who eat chicken burgers in fast food restaurants, and we are tribes with the unknown animals in the slaughterhouse. ...We are all the past and the future of that sand painting. Sand is fragile and eternal, we are fragile, and the eternal is desert.

It's so beautiful, it's not inferior to "The Landscape of Time", it focuses more on people, scenery and music, no dialogue or narration, it's beautiful!
