The paperboy refers to Jack Jansen.

There are three people in Jansen's family. His father WW Jansen runs a local newspaper. He is indifferent and selfish and irresponsible. His wife left when his son Jack was five years old and Ward was in high school; his brother Ward Jansen was investigated by the Miami Times A reporter, who has written some articles about civil right movements and reports on the injustices of the Poor People’s River. He is well-known in the local area; his younger brother Jack is an athlete on the university swimming team, but he got drunk and let out the water in the swimming pool. He was expelled from the swimming team and school. Although he didn't want to go home, because he had nowhere to go, he had to work for his father at home and distribute newspapers. Since her mother left, Anita began to work part-time at Janson's house, basically she and Ward brought up Jack. At some point in the middle, Ward was beaten due to something, leaving scars on both sides of his mouth (You stay away form the rough ones. Remember what happened last time?), leaving Jack behind and leaving for Miami alone. So Jack and Anita have the closest relationship.

Sheriff Call was killed in 1965 and the suspect Hillary was sentenced to death and is awaiting execution.
Charlotte kept communicating with people in prison until she became a pen pal with Hillary, fell in love with him, and got engaged. She firmly believed that Hillary was innocent, so she wrote to the famous Ward that Hillary's case was tricky.
So in the summer of 1969, Ward took his writer Yardley back to his hometown to investigate Hillary's case, and Jack became their driver. In the end, Ward, Yardley, Charlotte, and Jack formed the "investigation team". No one is willing to cooperate with the investigation, and WW does not want his son to investigate, so he can only start from the suspect.

When Charlotte appeared at the door of Jansen's house holding two boxes, Jack fell in love with Charlotte at first sight, and has always liked Charlotte ever since. After Jack helped Charlotte move the box to the garage, Yardley has been checking out Charlotte. Obviously Yardley is interested in Charlotte, and Jack is very jealous. Yardley read Charlotte's letter to Hillary and said that he thought Charlotte was a slut. Jack had a funny expression when he read the letter. Yardley obviously has a girlfriend named Casy(?), and Ward also knows his girlfriend (saying hello over the phone). When they picked up Charlotte to visit Hillary in prison, Jack fantasized about Charlotte wearing a wedding dress, and Yardley still behaved like Charlotte (hypocrisy).

In the scene of visiting in prison, Charlotte and Hillary had sex in the air, and the expressions of the five people had their own meanings: Charlotte was the simplest; Jack stared at Charlotte incredibly or turned his head and looked away disgustingly (after returning home, he felt sick. Yardley looked away but was not shocked. Finally, Charlotte was taken away and laughed (it is more certain that Charlotte is a slut, fuckable); Ward squinted at Hillary's crotch at the beginning, and Hillary found that he dodges his eyes. But in fact, he wanted to see Hillary but didn't dare to look it upright. Only he was paying attention to Hillary in this scene, and he was also a participant in this air sex (using a notebook to cover up his physiological reaction).

The second visit in prison, because Charlotte did not wear a skirt, Hillary went crazy, and Charlotte didn't say anything. Jack is jealous, not only Charlotte, but the closeness of Ward and Yardley's relationship also makes Jack jealous. WW put Jack's whole body in the newspaper after being stung by a jellyfish. Yardley read the news and said "It is called newspaper business." "(How much did Yardley suffer in the newspaper business?) Jack broke out and moved his hands. Ward was indifferent to the dispute between the two. Jack said the N word and was heard by Anita. Yardley thought he was hurt. Charlotte believes that Jack is Sexual depressed, and Yardley said Charlotte is Forth years old women who is obsessed with prison cocks. The

third time Jack took Ward to visit Hillary in prison, Hillary told Ward that he and his uncle were going to steal turf and sell turf (despite having Knife and blood-stained clothes) and gave his uncle's address. During this visit, Ward began to take lead. Ward asks Charlotte to take Yardley to verify the turf-losing golf course, and he and Jack go to the swamp to visit Hillary's uncle. I almost came out with my brother on the way.

The living environment of "Uncle" is far away from human beings, and his job is to kill crocodiles. There are many "relatives", just like generations of people living together in incest. On the way home, I visited Yardley's hotel room, to fresh up, he left Jack in Yardley's room and went back to work in the garage. Yardley and Charlotte came back from the visit. It was obvious that something happened between the two. Jack was jealous. Yardley said he brought back the evidence. Ward was suspicious. He asked Yardley how he found it. Yardley said he had passed the builder's license. Yardley wanted to end the investigation and leave, so he told the editor of the new findings. Ward believed that the investigation was not deep enough and the truth was still unclear, so he wanted to continue the investigation. Yardley left and returned to Miami. Ward did not believe Yardley's so-called new evidence (Yardley advantage took of Charlotte, made up the evidence, Charlotte was simply to get Hillary out, slept with Yardley), and took Jack and Charlotte to the beach to investigate. At the bar, Ward was drunk. Hooked up with a few blacks and was almost tortured to death. It was the first time to expose sexual orientation and hobbies in front of his brother Jack.

During Ward’s hospitalization, Jack wanted to remove at least his brother’s name before the fabricated article was published. Yardley refused and learned from Yardley that Yardley was not a Londoner, and Yardley had been offering sexual favor to Ward. He published an investigation article in which he fabricated evidence in the name of Ward, which caused concern and Hillary was released. Charlotte and Hillary married and returned to live in the swamp with Hillary. After Yardley's article was published, it attracted the attention of all parties. After Ward was discharged from the hospital, he wanted to post a correction. The editor stopped it for some benefit. Yardley signed the book contract and moved to New York. Ward fell.

Jack went to Ward to attend his father's wedding. He saw Ward who was sinking and he saw the pictures on the wall. He knew his brother better. The relationship between the two brothers was obviously closer than before. On December 12, 1969, the day of the wedding, the rumors of Ward one-eyed were apparently flying all over the sky. Jack received Charlotte's letter. Obviously, Charlotte had been and unfortunately. Jack was going to find Charlotte and Ward would join him. Charlotte was killed by Hillary and Ward was cut. "Is this what you wanted?" "Yeah." Jack finally escaped with his swimming skills. Hillary was executed for killing Charlotte and Ward. Whether he killed the sheriff call no one knows and no one cares. Jack eventually became a writer, but could never forget this summer, so he wrote a novel, and then the movie started with an interview with Anita about the novel.

When Jack was five years old, his mother left. His father was the shopkeeper. His brother and Anita were raised up. In the process, Ward left for his own reasons. Only Anita really cared about him in life. When he took his mother's ring from Ellen's hand, he said it was the only one he had. He gave the ring to Charlotte.

Ward is an investigative reporter chasing the truth. A few years ago, because of mess with rough guy, he left a scar on his face (the shape of the scar...). He isolated himself from his family and went to Miami by himself because of his sexual orientation. Yardley took advantage and was injured because of sexual addiction.

Yardley is one of the only black people in the film. In order to get a job at the newspaper, he lied that he was from London (he seemed to have a London accent when he told Jack); he had a girlfriend, and when he was drunk, he was taken advantage of by Ward. In order to get the story, Follow Ward back to his hometown; during the investigation, we fabricated evidence in order to attract the attention of the story and ignored the truth; the fabricated story was posted with Ward’s name and himself and was published without Ward’s consent; after publication, we got the book appointment and moved to New York , Continue your own life. He thinks he is restricted by his identity and therefore has to climb up at all costs. .

Anita is the only black person in the film. To Jack and Ward, she is a friend and family member. She knows everything about them, and she is tolerant and loving to them. She hated Ellen, so Ellen was driven away after taking over. She is the representative of the simple southern blacks.

WW Selfishness, indifference, racism. He hates black people, but for the sake of sales, he waits for the black woman's speech on TV in the newspaper. He thought Yardley had forgotten the color of his skin. Anita has been working in their home for so long, and he doesn't know how many children Anita has. In order to sell the newspaper, he put his youngest son stung by a jellyfish and peeed in the newspaper. For newspaper advertisements, the eldest son was asked not to publish their investigations. He gave the gift to his ex-wife to Ellen

W. W.’s fiancé Ellen, who came from northern New York to advertise, and eventually married WW and became the editor-in-chief of their newspaper. She is also a racist, even though she came from New York, after she moved into Jansen's house, she immediately fired Anita. The film shows her racism the most.

Charlotte fell in love with the Hillary she had imagined, and fought for him freedom, but the reality was much crueler and eventually died under Hillary. She is sincere to Jack. One of the few non-racists in the film.

Hillary is violent, perverted, cold-blooded, and bloody. From his uncle's living environment, we can know his growing up environment.

The film wants to say a lot, such as race, gender, sexual orientation, etc., so it seems very scattered. The script is OK, but the selected actors are not suitable for the film. The performances in this film are a bit unpopular. The starring Zac Efron did not. The ability to provoke the entire film, Nicole Kidman’s "crazy" woman is not crazy enough, she always looks a bit cold, and David Oiro’s black man is not "motivated" enough, John Cusack The perversions played are not violent and perverted, and Ward played by Matthew McConaughey can only be regarded as normal. Can be better.

I was deceived by such a mainstream cast, and none of the elements that a film noir should have are left behind.

This script is too scumbag, the film clips are very scattered, and I want to say something about the social situation at that time. Nicole Kidman really let go of his figure this time. Can't hide the mediocrity of this film
