20-year-old Glen Hansard

Seventeen years later, Glen Hansard, the 20-year-old young man in the movie who played the guitar seriously, said of the movie:

"I loved making that film but everything afterwards was very confusing. We went to America and they tried to turn us into a real band, it was a big promo gravy train, and the thing is the Commitments weren't actually a very good band. I felt like a cheat. We were being promoted like rock stars, and then it was over. It's a bit like what's going on with reality TV: imagine giving somebody everything they've ever wanted for a month, then taking it all back. It was an awful experience in terms of feeling emotionally robbed. And I was stuck with Outspan for years. Everybody I met thought I was that guy."

"Soul music is the rhythm of sex, the rhythm of the factory." I was poked by this sentence, I should still be very young.

Only 46 people have seen it? It's so rare that the movies I watch seem to be watched by tens of thousands of people~ A good movie recommended by serious comrades! The song "Dark End Of The Street" is really good~

The Commitments quotes

  • Steve Clifford: [in confessional] Used to, when I studied I would sing hymns, but now all I can sing is "When A Man Loves A Woman" by Marvin Gaye

    Father Molloy: Percy Sledge.

    Steve Clifford: What?

Father Molloy: It was Percy Sledge did that particular song. I have the album.

    Steve Clifford: Oh...

  • Joey: Look, I know you're hurtin' now, but in time you'll realize what you've achieved.

    Jimmy Rabbitte: I've achieved nothing!

Joey: You're missin' the point. The success of the band was irrelevant - you raised their expectations of life, you lifted their horizons. Sure we could have been famous and made albums and stuff, but that would have been predictable. This way it's poetry.
