1 and ½ fairy tales

The movie can be roughly divided into two relatively complete stories.

One is Wilbur, the innocent, friendly and kind-hearted pig, who makes friends with the less popular spider Sally and the mouse. In the end, Sally and the mouse help Wilbur to get rid of his fate of becoming a ham.

I think of a fairy tale book with pinyin and picture-by-picture words occupying space.

The other is a kind and lovely girl who saved a piglet that was about to be killed. A series of interesting things happened during the care of the piglets. Finally, the girl met a good friend through these things.

This kind of story probably does not have pinyin, and the illustration style is also very mature. But it's also popular.

With live-action CG, with Julia Roberts as the voice, and with Dakota Fanning, naturally the director is not going to target the low-age market. Therefore, the director and screenwriter set a few highlights in a story composed of two simple fairy tales. This is the extra ½ fairy tale, and it can also be said that this story has deepened ½.

1. Innocence and maturity
The maturity, utilitarianism, lack of imagination of the adult world, and the innocence and romance of children have long been the themes of various works. The ending is nothing more than an adult was touched. Such as "children's world is vast and boundless, only adults will add frames and boundaries to close themselves", "children's innocence heals a dirty society", "long live friendship", etc. need not be repeated. The highlight of the movie is the order of the farm. All the animals produce in their own place, the long hairs, the carts, the eggs, and the milk. Only Wilbur has nothing to do. Their attitude is like the attitude of the elders towards Dakota Fanning. They began to ignore and do not understand, and later moved and supported. This is simply a replica of the real society. Children will eventually become adults, and innocent friendships and innocent ideas will always disappear like pigs into ham, becoming functional and adaptable to society. This is the law. But no matter what, we still have to cherish it and cherish it.

The death of Sally
It is not a very conventional technique to write the main characters to death in this kind of story, but there are also a few cases in the impression. Sally's death is not necessary, but it does play a strong role. Innocent, carefree children often start to unconsciously understand some things they didn't understand in the past and see some things that they couldn't see in the past when they encounter the death of their relatives. In the film, the atmosphere of grief is not rendered, but inheritance and rebirth are shown. Sally and Wilbur, who had confided and helped each other, this friendship will continue. Children will grow up, but innocence will be passed on. Generations have grown old, and friendship will never die.

3. There
is nothing wrong with the protagonist of spiders, mice and crows being pigs. However, there are a few main supporting roles, one is an unpleasant spider, one is a dirty mouse, and two noisy crows. None of them are cute images. This is quite interesting. Choosing friends and mates does not have to be a simple and beautiful thing to be rich, handsome, Bai Fumei, or Principal Wang.

Movies that are completely geared toward young children, such as "Bright and Infested", "Bear Infested", etc., although the box office must be guaranteed ×2, it is an extremely accurate strategy in terms of sales, but in terms of art and the movie itself, it lacks or even has no vitality. If you let go of competition, it will probably be ugly. If you want to make a breakthrough, you must tell a story for a larger group based on the fairy tale, or dig deeper into the story.

The feature film is not as good as the animation at the beginning and end of the film.... It's too far from the original, isn't it?

Charlotte's Web quotes

  • Charlotte A. Cavatica: Goodbye... my sweet, sweet Wilbur.

Wilbur: Goodbye, Charlotte. I love you.

  • Homer Zuckerman: Well, what can I say about this pig that hasn't already been said? I know a lot of you folks have come out to the farm and you've seen the words, and a lot of you have asked me, 'how could this have happened?'. I don't know, but it has happened... at a time when we really don't see many miraculous things. Maybe we do. Maybe they're all right there around us everyday, we just don't know where to look. There's no denying that our own little Wilbur... he's part of something that's bigger than all of us. And life on that farm's just a whole lot better with him in it. He really is some pig.
