Not all Downton rallies are wonderful

I watched a movie called The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society . Seeing the 6.9 rating on IMBD, I think this is probably a movie that can be used to kill time. And indeed, the story of the British female writer and Lily James are still attractive in my heart. After watching it, I think I can only give this movie three stars, one star for Gurney's British country style, one star for the costume of the heroine, and one star for the lovely Mattew Goode.

The story is about a British female writer Juliet in order to find inspiration, heal the trauma of losing her parents during World War II, and escape a very happy real life. By chance, she became pen pals with Dawsey and learned that this was provided for residents of occupied areas during World War II. Healing book club (yes, the long name of the title), and came alone to the story that happened on this newly restored island. The story unfolds from Juliet's perspective. Through different members of the book club, she keeps getting to know the story of the book club and the whereabouts of Elizabeth who was captured by the Germans. On the other hand, she is also looking for self-salvation.

Although the subject matter is old-fashioned, it is better because of the characters and the background of the times. If it is well arranged, it can still become a good film. But obviously the film did not meet my expectations. The story of the book club is not fascinating enough, and the layers are laid out to end without suspense at all. If you want to use one person's story to pursue another story, then both stories should be wonderful, but unfortunately they are not shown in the film. The character creation is very weak. The soul of the book club is also the person who promotes the development of the story. Elizabeth (played by the third young lady of Downton Abbey) is a person who only gets hot, can't distinguish the key points, and has no clue. He is in the occupied area and the German army. The nice guy fell in love and killed the other party; in order to save the prisoner of war who escaped from the concentration camp, she left her daughter and took the prisoner of war to escape, but the prisoner of war was shot and killed and she was captured; in the concentration camp, she was whipped for rescue The girl tried her best, but she was shot and killed. The girl continued to be killed; and everyone around her was heartbroken because of her. Let’s talk about the heroine Juliet, who continued the small fresh movie with a handsome and rich boyfriend who didn’t understand him, and finally found the true self, and decided to leave everything behind and be with Dawsey. Although I don't understand their sympathy and where their love comes from, at least the movie explains it that way. The only two characters that make people happy are the viper gay honey agent played by Mattew Goode, and the rich and handsome boyfriend who scolded Juliet when she returned the big diamond ring.

All in all, this is a boring and old-fashioned drama. I sat patiently with my grandparents for two hours, and laughed accurately everywhere, thinking that Lily James still couldn't get rid of the naivety of Downton. The little white rabbit, and the third lady as always cynical and courageous to fall in love with the opposing class, and Mattew Goode so cute, ended this viewing.

Lily James is really suitable for this role

Although the gentleman Mark straight is out of tune with the literary circle at first glance, his emotional intuition is still very accurate.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society quotes

  • Juliet Ashton: [Writing] Dear Mr. Adams, I am so pleased your letter found me and that my book found you. Perhaps there is some secret sort of homing instincts in books that brings them to their perfect readers. How delightful if that were true.

  • Sidney Stark: We have to write about them.

    Juliet Ashton: I can't. I promised I wouldn't.

Sidney Stark: I realize that Juliet. But this is your story to tell. As sure as I am sitting here. And you will not be right until you do... Now, Elizabeth for better or worse, couldn't help but follow her heart. You must do the same.

Juliet Ashton: I am afraid. What if I am not a good enough writer?

Sidney Stark: She doubts. She doesn't believe. She craves being taken seriously, but then, she won't do that for herself.
