Reality may not be cool, human nature is still in the world

Many people say that this is a Korean political movie, but I don't think it is. It's just a political drama. The director obviously has something to say, "No matter where you are, you will feel that this is a national shame. They are obviously compatriots. Everyone has the same language, history and culture, but they must treat each other as The enemy must be killed.”

This movie was the South Korean box office champion in 2000 and the first South Korean film released in North Korea. Only these two points can tell its popularity in South Korea. For audiences in other countries, this may be just a feature film; but for the Korean people, it contains the feelings of the two countries for more than 40 years of confrontation with each other. This should be the reason for its popularity in Korea.

Before watching this movie, Hong Kong audiences had better understand the history of South and North Korea for nearly half a century. They are politically hostile to each other, and even hate each other. In fact, it is difficult for us foreigners to understand the feelings of the two peoples. Knowing the history of the two countries first will make you more aware of the content of this film.

The "safe zone" in the film is a guide for North Korea in an area on the border of Panmunjom, where soldiers from the two countries gathered. The separation between each other is only a very thick line (national boundary), but the situation on both sides is quite different.

During a military training in South Korea, South Korean soldiers accidentally stepped into the border of North Korea. When they retreated, they accidentally left a soldier behind. Unfortunately, this soldier stepped on a landmine by mistake and was unable to move, which was later discovered by two North Korean soldiers. Fortunately, these two kind-hearted North Korean soldiers helped him remove landmines without killing him, and the three became friends. It turns out that they are both soldiers garrisoned at the border post, so they can meet secretly every night, telling each other about North and South matters, until they are accidentally hit by someone during the meeting. . . . . .

The plot of the film is suspenseful, and the truth is revealed at the end of the film. The film spent a long time describing the feelings of the soldiers of the two countries towards friends and not wanting to betray the country after the incident. The plot is compact and full of tension. According to the information obtained from the Internet, the scenes of Panmunjom and the border are very similar to the real ones, which shows that the director is serious about the film. The film also mentions a piece of history. In the past two peace talks, North Korean prisoners of war could freely choose to go to North and South Korea. Some of them did not want to go, so they had to find another way out. The irony among them is that the neutral countries Switzerland and Sweden, which are intermediaries in the peace talks between the two countries, refuse to take in these prisoners of war, and want them to find their own way. This shows how superficial human rights in the West are.

I like this movie very much. The director not only brings out the feelings of the two peoples towards each other, but also shoots many things that the South Korean people could not do before. It turns out that before the implementation of Kim Dae-jung’s "North Korea Sunshine Policy", South Korean people were not allowed to hide North Korean military uniforms, public display of North Korean presidential portraits and quotations, and North Korean flags. This shows that the director of the film, Park Chan-wook, is very serious about the film.

Thinking of the creative scope of Chinese film directors, alas, I am speechless. Is that JSA a real shot? Because it is so much like the real world.

Was directly collapsed to five stars by the last group photo. Also known as the film, The Men Who Betrayed. Is the second South Korean male really not my twin brother, Lei Jiayin, who has been separated for many years?

Joint Security Area quotes

  • Sgt. Lee Soo-hyeok: Hey Assholes! You just gonna leave me here?

Sgt. Oh Kyeong-pil: You told us to go.

Sgt. Lee Soo-hyeok: I said don't come closer, when did I say to leave, you fuckers!

  • Maj. Gen. Bruno Botta: You haven't learned much about Panmunjom yet. Here, the peace is preserved by hiding the truth. What they both really want is that this investigation proves nothing after all.
