[C+Film Critic] Angry Birds 2: After the gas celebrity breaks and stands

Although the game-based movie has great potential, to what extent it is necessary to maintain the characteristics of IP, and to what extent it is necessary to compromise with genre movies, this is a complicated and delicate question. As far as "Angry Birds" is concerned, the 2016 big movie is not a perfect starting point: the story and character design give way to rigidly implanted gameplay, and the screenwriter and director attempt to make up for the experience with a lot of blunt neta The shortcomings of the above have instead made the movie a subset of the passages, and the lack of highlight moments naturally means that they will be forgotten after reading.

However, with a cost of 75 million US dollars and a return rate of up to 5 times, this animated film, which has been late for five or six years, also has a chance to get a sequel. Fortunately, "Angry Birds 2" finally found a way to make the characters shine-that is, not talking about games, only talking about movies. This is the same as the "Raging Behemoth" released last year.

Only by embracing genre movies can IP be rejuvenated in the form of movies. Although the popularity of the "Angry Birds" IP has been declining year by year, the fast-paced and genre film mode of "Angry Birds 2" is significantly higher in viewability and entertainment than its predecessors. Both the new screenwriter and the new director have a wealth of comedy experience, and there are more natural references to similar Hollywood works (especially 007 and "Mission Impossible").

Although the movie itself still has many problems, the adventurous main line of the story gives the protagonist at least an external motivation, and the branch line that sells cuteness is obviously a re-interpretation of the squirrel line of "Ice Age". In the transitional period between summer and autumn, such light-tasting family-oriented movies are also considered as a palate cleanser-at least for Sony, "Goose Bumps" is not nutritious, but harmless to humans and animals. Both the production and cost-recovery pressures of small and medium-cost movies are much lower than those of "Pixel Wars" and "Men in Black 4".

But there is no ambition, and there is no ambition to shoot. Two months ago, "The Secret Life of Pets 2" turned the main story into a TV episode. In addition to setting people to stay in place, the special effects have been slightly upgraded, and they have taken a big step back in almost all directions. And "Angry Birds 2" went the opposite way. The story is compact, simple and interesting, and it is indeed gentler and smoother than the previous one.

This is because the purpose of "Angry Birds 2" is more clear. This is not an IP promotional material, but a family comedy movie borrowing the same role. Whether it is the director of Nick Children’s Channel, Turop Van Allman, or the first film screenwriter Jason Sudekis, his grasp of popular comedy is obviously higher than that of the creators of the previous work.

It can be seen that, unlike Hollywood studios such as Disney and DreamWorks, Rovio did not arrogantly give grand meaning or deep propositions to his own animation, or rationalize this unique animation world whimsically. It has decently exerted its not-so-rich creativity, and even tried to break the self-constraint of Hollywood animation in terms of political correctness. Through reliable execution, it satisfactorily returned to the simplicity and directness of the 90s.

In general, the colorful characters and the visual effects of the sky have made "Angry Birds 2" approach the developer Rovio's vision for the first time: a Disneyland composed of red birds and green pigs. On many levels, "Angry Birds 2" is a standard children's movie, not an adult movie in the form of animation. In view of the fact that the classification of PG and PG-13 has been increasingly far away from this group, the "Angry Birds 2" that follows the creative formula is not disappointing, and even somewhat unexpected.

Whether it’s a horizontal or vertical comparison, "Angry Birds 2" is a sequel of low driving and high going-this is better than the "Lego Movie", "The Secret Life of Pets" and "Bull Adventures". The "Television Movies" like "Ji" are more valuable. Although the story is so simple that it can be spoiled to the end, it can still be quite entertaining in an hour and a half.

Taking into account the decline of IP itself and the lack of TV channels for promotion, the series lost the best opportunity to please the main audience group-the young audience. And if there is no breakthrough in business strategy, "Angry Birds 2" is also likely to be the final chapter of this animated film series. For animated movies (and Sony Animation, which has played a lot of IP), it can only be said that it is not painful or itchy; but for the owner Rovio, it is an important issue that has to be considered.

Take them out! The love of frozen dogs and seals, "Back to the Future" at a speed of 65 kilometers per hour, and hearing a series of nostalgic hits such as "Space Oddity", the Trojan Eagle toilet sneaked into a period of laughter; I feel that it has little to do with the game settings, But all kinds of stalks are really fun

Even more boring and cliche than I had expected.
