Conscience is still the victory of interests

Saw a movie, Strange Grace, this is the name of a chant that is widely circulated. The film tells the story of William Wilberforce, a member of the British Parliament in the 18th century, who persevered in promoting the abolition of slavery and finally succeeded. This is a film adapted from real history.

Wilberforce should be of aristocratic origin, not producing, enjoying privileges, and being able to devote his life to the cause of reforming society and promoting progress, which is enviable. He promoted the abolition of slavery because he believed in God and firmly believed that black slaves were equal people and should not be trafficked, enslaved, abused, and killed. He also understood and recognized the sins of the black slave trade. He is kind and noble, and when he sees a horse falling to the ground and being whipped by his owner, he will come forward to stop him. He is talented, and his parliamentary speeches and debates are excellent. He insisted on justice, and even though the proposal for many years failed repeatedly, he did not give up. In addition, he opposed revolution, was loyal to the king, insisted on reform, and worked hard to promote social civilization and progress throughout his life. He should have a name in British political history, but he is not known to me.

The strange grace sings to God. The Christian faith plays an extremely important role in Western civilization, and many ideas originate from it. Christianity and ancient Greek civilization are the two major sources of Western civilization. The Chinese people do not know and study in-depth on this, and we can't talk about a deep understanding of Western civilization. Of course, Western civilization does not have a deep understanding and knowledge of us. At the level of general folk culture, it is full of superficial impressions and prejudices.

It is worth mentioning that, except for a black missionary who survived by chance, all the upper-class white British people who advocated the abolition of slavery in this film. The film expressed a view that the civilized British abolished the slave trade from top to bottom, relying on the awakening of people's conscience, not on violent struggle, how civilized and gentle! In fact, Wilberforce has been widely publicized and gradually gained the ethical approval of the parliament and the public. Why has it failed repeatedly? Because conscience can't defeat interests. The prosperity of the British Empire depends on the criminal black slave trade, the capture of transportation, and slave labor in plantations, mines, and factories. All links are profiting. Countless British people have become rich and national power has become strong. Even if it is sinful, the British do not want to stop. Marx said that when capital came to the world, every pore was dripping with blood. It seemed that he was inspired by the British slave trade. The strength of the British Empire and the wealth of the British were built on the bones of the slaves, in the blood and groans of the slaves.

The movie actually shows that individual humans have a conscience, know evil, and know civilization, but they pay more attention to practical benefits. With the help of the friend's prime minister, Wilberforce and his supporters adopted a deceptive method and passed the inspection of neutral flag ships during the Anglo-French War, which greatly affected the slave trade. The actual decline in the slave trade led to a reduction in parliamentary supporters of slavery, leading to the passage of Wilberforce's long-awaited bill.

Indeed, without the perseverance of this saint-like congressman, there will be no abolition bill passed. He is indeed great. The civilized conscience cannot tolerate the evil of the slave trade, but what can be seen is how wealth drives people to start evil and continue. The British established colonies all over the world not to spread civilization, but to plunder wealth. Black slaves and even the natives of other colonies were never truly regarded as equal people with the British, but things equivalent to wealth. There are too many incidents where people are not regarded as human beings. The Jewish massacre, the Nanjing massacre, and modern slaves show that human sympathy and empathy are not developed, and they are far from being compatible with strong selfishness and greed for wealth. Than, otherwise, it is impossible to explain why people have turned a blind eye to the existence of darkness for a long time. But we should be happy that there are indeed some nobles among human beings. Although very few, their light does illuminate a lot of gloom.

The main theme of the gospel, the characters are flat-faced, and the sensational is also old-fashioned. It is not at all reflective of this year's Olympic award film, but it can't help but incite (it turns out that the old-school sensationalism is actually the most effective). Rufus Sewell drank at the grave of an old comrade-in-arms who passed away and celebrated his meritorious work.
