Sad adults

On a snowy morning, a middle-aged man left his beautiful wife’s bed and tried to find a good book from the bookshelf to open the new day. He saw a few yellowed old books without any advice, and he pulled out One, with the certificate of award written on the back of the cover page, but the name on it is not his. His thoughts floated back to the day 40 years ago... Hollywood directors would shoot like this.

A child, since one day two years ago, he has never seen his father again. He and his mother are running around, under the fence, he will hear his mother sobbing at night. He was expelled from the original school. He didn't do anything, and his mother didn't tell him the reason. He only warned him and ran away when he saw the German. His mother took him to a school and asked him to enroll him, but was refused until she met the priest...the Jewish director in Hollywood would shoot like this.

Japanese directors will portray the cruel and pathological beauty of the suppressed personality in growing up, and Spain has long had a gay and pedophile version of the church boys’ school story... In the

movie, the Nazi officer said: "You French do not have the discipline of our Germans." ,This is real. But the French are born artists. Their army does not have iron discipline. They can tell stories, they can be gorgeous and profound, and they can return to the basics. "Goodbye, Children" is a simple movie, a World War II in the memory of non-Jews. There is no fire and smoke, no fear of death approaching, and no pain of losing family members and fellow races. Everything is just the world seen through the eyes of a child: he can't understand who the Jews are, can't understand that there are groups of people in the world who don't eat pork, and can't understand why the Jews are taken away by the Germans. He only saw that a new classmate came to the church school. He seemed to have a lot of secrets. He loved reading as much as he himself. He played a good piano and they became friends. Julian couldn't see the difference between Jean Bonne and all his classmates. He still felt that he could talk to him more easily. But in the end he was taken away because he was a Jew.

There are too many unreasonable things in the adult world. When we watched "Goodbye, Children", we felt the innocent childishness and friendship in the film. We had already lost ours. Before the end of the movie, we can’t wait to see the plot of the children growing up-we thought it must be done like this at the end; we also look forward to the farewell ceremony between Julian and Jean, such as an exchange of books and waving hands, such as a hug. What. But nothing happened. The story is over, a simple voice-over calmly explained the follow-up of the story, the picture freezes at the door where Julian is staring at the disappearance of his friend, tears floating in his eyes.

A movie can be as simple as that. I don't know who turned a movie into "Goodbye Childhood" to increase the "literature" or what? The children in the movie did not grow up at all, and the ending is not what we imagined as “smart” at all. Only after watching it did we discover our sadness.

In the active farewell, life chooses to forget; in the passive farewell, we grow up suddenly.

Au Revoir les Enfants quotes

  • Joseph: Stop acting so pious. There's a war going on, kid.

  • Mme Quentin: You think I like this? I miss you every moment. I'd like to dress up as a boy and join you. I'd see you at school every day. It'd be our secret. You know I can't keep you in Paris with me.
