When people speak of great men, they think of men like Napleon. Men of violence. Rarely do they think of peaceful men. But contrast the reception they'll receive when they return home from their battles. Napoleon will arrive in pomp and in power. A man who's achieved the very summit of earthly ambition. Yet his dreams will be haunted by the oppressions of wars. William Wilberforce, however, will return to his family, lay his head on his pillow, and remember the slave trade is no more.
When people talk about great people, they think of people like Napoleon—those who fight by force, but it’s hard to think of people who fight in peace. When Napoleon returned home from the battle, he was treated with pomp and majesty. He obtained the highest class status and ambition to conquer the world, but in his dreams, he was always haunted by the worries of war. However, William Wilberforce would return to his home, lay his head on the pillow, and then remember that the slave trade had disappeared.
I often think of our social responsibilities. How can we meet God's heart? Is the quick and thorough method too radical? Does the slow improvement method lack confidence? What is wisdom? His thoughts are higher than ours...
Amazing grace lyrics
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now I'm found;
Was blind, but now I see.
T'was grace that taught my heart to fear.
And grace my fears relieved ;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, tolls and snares,
We have already come.
T'was grace that brought us safe thus far,
And grace will lead us home.
When we've been here ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.
Strange grace, how sweet, my sins have been forgiven!
Before I was lost, I was found now, and I can see now blindly.
Such grace makes me awe and comforts my heart;
It is so precious that you will be blessed when you first believe it!
Many dangers, the snare of trials, I have passed through safely;
by the grace of the Lord, I am not afraid at all, and guide me home!
In the coming Jubilee year, the saints will gather together for a thousand years of grace and love;
joy and praise, in front of the father's seat, look forward to that day!
