The singing of the nightingale is beautiful but full of darkness

The pale yellow image took us back to a dilapidated bar in New York in 1921. A group of exposed prostitutes crowded Ewa onto the stage. This is Ewa's first performance on stage, and she plays the role of the Statue of Liberty. Ironically, on the night after the performance, Ewa's virgin body was taken away by a prostitute.

Like thousands of immigrants, with a beautiful vision of freedom and happiness, Ewa brought her sister to the United States, waiting for them is endless darkness.

Through the vivid interpretation of Joaquin Phoenix and Marion Cotillard, James Gray's "Immigration" brings us not only a re-examination of freedom, but also a rethinking of love and hatred. The last shot of the film is great-in that era of darkness and light, it is not just love that is distorted.

Very regular and old-fashioned style, the soundtrack of the editing shots is clean and all hidden under the story, and it is not overwhelming. Only the last shot can enhance the connotation of the story in form, but the suffering of outsiders [forcing the good into prostitution, moral redemption] and love, hate and hatred They are intertwined without digging too deep, and love is too perfunctory to rely on love at first sight. Joaquin still gave a very good performance, Jeremy's role is too simple.

It's okay, it told a very smooth story, but it didn't touch my point, alas

The Immigrant quotes

  • Another Immigrant: [speaking Polish] You're Polish? We're from Lodz. It's terrible the way they treat us here. Like we are nothing.

Ewa Cybulska: I am not nothing.

  • Orlando the Magician: [on stage] So, what do you want here in America?

Ewa Cybulska: I want to be happy.

Orlando the Magician: To be happy...

Heckler: I think you were happy last night, you cheap whore. She's Bruno's best.
