Fortunately, the truth is actually not so dark

This is not a comment on the movie, but a comment on this phenomenon and some insights combined with my own personal experience.

-------------------------------

I am also a student at a Boarding School in the UK, although not in Eton/Westminster /Harrow School is a more so-called "elite" school, but it is also a very good one near London. Our school used to send batches of talents to Oxford and Cambridge, but the good old days are no longer there. Last year there was one who went to Cambridge and this year there was no one. . . Maybe it's because our school manages everything relatively loosely. . .

Sorry for digressing. . .

In China, generally speaking, the so-called "bad students" are those who do not abide by school rules, have poor grades, do not like teachers, drink alcohol at a young age, and occasionally fight.

But this is not the case in the UK.

In the UK, usually the more people who like to drink, smoke, and drug, the more popular they are. Teachers like them. School officials choose this kind of people. (Of course not in front of the teacher casually) But they are not unrestrained drinking, smoking, and drug use. Drinking is more special. I will talk about it later; I know some people smoke three times a day, but there are others who do not smoke at all in school. When I return to my country (a German), I smoke a whole package a day. Some people usually don’t smoke but they are just curious about the taste when they see others smoke. What kind of bar club will occasionally smoke marijuana but no one is addicted (but no one needs to eat or inject drugs).

So in China, I was taught from childhood to adulthood and said that you should never touch things. You will be addicted to things you can't get rid of. Because they grew up in contact with them. Self-control has been trained since childhood.

And these people have good grades, whether they are studying science or history and English philosophy. But in general, people who like to smoke and drink, run clubs and parties, study subjects more inclined to history, law, politics, philosophy, and English literature, which are more subjects that China calls humanities. These are also subjects that politicians tend to choose. Just like Miles and Alistair chose history in the movie. In the UK, such choices are related to science students (mathematics (and high numbers) | physics and/or chemistry and/or biology and/or geography) art students (art | media media | design and technology), business students (economics or business |Mathematics|Physics) is as popular as chaotic students (psychology|Business|Mathematics or others), and usually those with good backgrounds tend to choose these humanities subjects.

In fact, most of these people are not as violent as in the movies-on the contrary, they all have good tutors, are naturally kind to people, have a sense of responsibility, live reliably at important moments, and will not throw cups, beat people, or flirt. Girl.

For example, there is a traditional house music competition night in our school. The upper grades have to go to the lower grades to destroy the room, such as turning the bed, sweeping all the books on the desk to the floor, etc., but they will definitely not be like this. Like in the movie, you smashed your computer or disassembled your bed. What they enjoy is that everyone quietly waits outside your door and then knocks on the door alone, making you think it’s just the one who is looking for you in a hurry, and then waiting for the moment when you open the door, everyone rushes in and takes you. The room tossed again and pulled you out of the bed and lifted your mattress, and then instantly walked away leaving you lying on the floor in confusion and not knowing what happened. . . It's not really disruptive.

Regarding wine::::::::::::::::::::::::::

In the UK, the law stipulates that 5 to 16 years old can be private with parental consent at home For family gatherings, you can buy beer from 16 to 18 years old or drink a set meal in a restaurant. So wine is nothing in the eyes of the British. . .

Personally, I don't know why I didn't like the smell of alcohol since I was a child, so I didn't want to touch a drop before. When I was still in China, even my mother asked me to accompany her to drink plum wine. I didn’t even drink it and made my mother cry. But after I came to the UK, I would occasionally drink a bottle of beer with them when they offered beer at school. Now, on the premise of not being drunk. Because I found that I can still accept the taste of beer and champagne, but red and white wine still don't like to feel too bitter. And I don’t like the other characteristics of wine (paralyzing thinking), maybe it can make people want to go to bed earlier. .

Sorry for digressing again. .

But drinking is definitely not a big deal in the UK. Even the school will provide some alcohol to the 12th and 13th grades (the two grades before university, corresponding to the age of 16 and 17) at some events or celebrations. Of course, it will not provide the amount that can intoxicate you.

Wine in the UK is definitely a drink used by people across the country to celebrate all kinds of things regardless of age. It's not something in China that will become addicted if you drink it, you will lose your mind and go crazy if you drink it.

Another thing is amazing. I don’t know why many Asians in our school are allergic to alcohol. But I have not heard of a non-Asian alcohol allergy. What I mean by alcohol allergy may be different from what is defined in medicine. But what I mean by alcohol allergy has two symptoms. One is that after drinking a little alcohol, the face will be flushed and the brain thinking will obviously be affected and become more than usual. Radical and talkative, that is, obviously drunk. The other is that if you drink a little more alcohol, you will get itchy all over your body and have the same symptoms as food allergies, and then you will die.

I would like to say if everyone in China says not to drink alcohol, will there be these possibilities:
1. Because most people have never drunk alcohol before they are about 1-20 years old, many people are allergic to alcohol, so many people Everyone loses their minds after drinking a little alcohol, and everyone says not to drink. Then an endless loop.
2. Because most people have not drunk alcohol before 1-20 years old, so the amount of alcohol is not good, so everyone said not to drink.
3. Chinese people are genetically prone to alcohol allergies, so many people lose their sanity after drinking a little alcohol, and everyone says not to drink.
4. Chinese people generally don’t drink alcohol after following their mother’s instruction. Once they are forced to drink, they drink strong alcohol like Erguotou Laobaigan, so they have a very bad impression of alcohol, so they continue to tell others to drink less. , Everyone said not to drink.

Maybe it's just because of the uncontrollability of my great Chinese clan. . .
Okay, let's stop here.

thanks.

The subject matter is just the offensive type Ali said, "You want to be me" nakedly spread out, the darkest Ali is in the club, but it means that he will enter the more elite class of adults. The final smile is simply ironic. The two new male protagonists chose different endings. Visually observe the alistair winning movie. Such people will never repent and will have the absolute right to speak in ten years.

"the ragged end of the gentry"

The Riot Club quotes

  • Alistair Ryle: This bourgeois outrage when we do anything, say anything. Anything we ever build or achieve. Anything with the slightest whiff of magnificence. How did they get everywhere? How did they make everything so fucking second-rate? Them thinking they're better because there's more of them! That's not sweat on their palms, it's envy. It's resentment! And it stinks like a fucking drain! I'm sick to fucking death of poor people!

  • George Balfour: Back to the trenches boys.
