Basketball dream

The film took 6 years to edit 3 nearly 3 hours to record the basketball dreams of two black children who love basketball. William was injured and Arthur was poor, and both were restricted by academic, drugs, race and other practical factors. Gradually stay away and give up the dream. The film does not sharply criticize the cruelty of the American real society for its empty packaging to encourage free will. It focuses more on the two protagonists and records how dreams are defeated by reality and become an illusory "American dream."

Real and inspiring not because they were basketball stars but because it shows us how hard it real is to achieve your dreams.

Basketball version of boyhood. The method is surprisingly simple and primitive. In fact, it should be long overdue to make a documentary like this, because there are thousands of children who are the same as the protagonist who wrote the book American Life together. The crossover of the fates of the two protagonists (and the contrasting edits) is brilliant, highlighting the uncertainty of fate and allowing outsiders to see more. The disadvantage is that it sometimes becomes a memorabilia of life events, and it lacks a keen capture of the protagonist's mentality.

Hoop Dreams quotes

  • Self - Arthur's Mother: [toast] To my son, I hope you pursue all your dreams and your desires that you have within you. Love you, very much.

  • ACT Tutor: If you're just out right guessing, if a monkey took this test, and you trained him just to do "b's" and "c's" - he probably would get more right than if he picked "a's" and "d's".
