Ink analysis

A very amazing movie. It has a unique style and is very delicate. Who would have thought of a budget of only $250,000? Director, screenwriter, and arranger are all one person. After the film is completed, no major company is willing to take over the screening, so the director directly hangs on the P2P for people to download, which is generally well received.

The whole story process is a bit complicated, so it is summarized as follows, welcome to discuss:

the core of the story is a sad cycle. Because of the shadow of discrimination and poverty in his childhood, John fell into a fanatical pursuit of fame and wealth step by step, and eventually his wife and daughter died. Frustrated, he raised a gun and committed suicide, but the endless remorse made his soul unable to rest, becoming a drifter (drifter) Ink. In order to avoid the pain of his scars and get rid of the identity of a wanderer, he hopes to join the evil dreamer (Incubus). So he "returned" silently to kidnap his daughter's soul. The reason why I can go back to the past is because the time and space of the soul world is not the same as the time and space of the real world. After some hard work, he finally took his daughter's soul to the headquarters of Mengmo. Once the little girl's soul is sacrificed, the little girl in the real world will die, and John in the real world will repeat the above process and never stand up. A passage from Pathfinder in the movie also explains this problem.

For the Dream Demon, every time John goes through this cycle, the Dream Demon will have one more minion, so the Dream Demon will send many minions to guarantee this reincarnation. Storytellers of justice need to work hard to break this cycle. The setting here is very similar to the destination before the movie. For some reasons, the protagonist has realized a unique mechanism that can be used.

Regarding the Rangers: In addition to Ink, there are two more in the movie. These people should be full of obsessions (fame, fortune, greed, vanity) in the real world, making them unable to rest after death. The memory of passing away after death disappears, but the obsession will remain. The other two wanderers should also want to join the dream monster side, so there is a code to enter the dream monster's headquarters. But somehow it did not materialize.

About the Dream Monster: Everyone wears a mask and wears the same clothes. Where they exist should be hell.

About the storyteller: The storyteller’s world should be heaven. Unlike the dream monster, each of them is different.

The key to breaking the cycle is the Pathfinder. Neither the dreamer nor the storyteller can directly change the physical world, but can only indirectly affect it through human dreams and consciousness. But the pathfinder can hear the pulse of the world through both ears, and then use the butterfly effect to change the physical world, causing John to crash and break through the cycle of reincarnation. This pathfinder is roughly equivalent to the messenger of God (as if he himself said the same) to find a way out for the troubled person. Like the pulp novel, this movie has a vaguely Christian meaning.

Of course, the conscience in John's heart was the one who defeated the devil.

In the end, the reincarnation is broken, the past is changed, the father regrets it, and the little girl wakes up, so Ink disappears and the world returns to peace.

    Good theme, bad story

The idea is general, the conception is general, the editing is general, but the picture is very stylized, this director is more suitable for shooting MV. The story of the whole film is simple and the plot is cumbersome. It is not without reason that most people can't watch it, at least it explains some problems.

Ink quotes

  • John: Hamilton couldn't find a fat man in a county fair.

  • Jacob: You know the downward spiral is essentially a chain reaction.

Allel: And nothing that comes out of your mouth makes any sense.

Jacob: They're all reactions! One thing begets the next. A man has a weakness, he's flawed. That flaw leads him to guilt. The guilt leads him to shame. The shame he compensates with pride and vanity. And when pride fails, despair takes over and they all lead to his destruction. It will become his fate... Something's gotta stop the flow.
