What's in the forest-"Walking in the Forest"

In fairy tales, there are various animals living in the forest. In the story, the rabbit is willing to spend two days racing with the tortoise, the monkey is willing to fish for the moon, and the black cat sheriff catches the mouse to eat it... The forest is a treasure house of non-stop stories. Even if there are no fairy tales when you grow up, would you be curious about what is in the forest?

"Walking in the Woods" is a film based on the travel writer's novel of the same name. The story is very simple. It tells the story of two old rookies with no outdoor experience walking through the 2,118-mile Appalachian Trail.
At first I was attracted by movie posters. The two old men stood on the rock like chatting, arguing, like two people are about to fall apart, like one is giving a generous statement and the other is speechless...Yes, because of curiosity.

The two of them slipped and were rescued to end the journey. On the way back, there was a wonderful conversation:
"We are still far from the goal."
"What did you say, we did it."
"We didn't even have a chance to take a look. Katadine Mountain." (Unfortunate)
"Another mountain? How many mountains do you have to see to be satisfied? In my opinion, we have finished the Appalachian Trail. We have passed the scorching sun and the wind. Snow, we walked to our feet bleeding, we hiked in the Appalachian Trail, Bryson." (Proud)
"Perhaps you are right."
Like the fat old man said, he said optimistically There are some elusive truths-why do you travel far?

At the beginning of the film, Bryson said that he wanted to "explore nature and find his own roots." The truth is that his work was frivolously ridiculed by the media, because of the embarrassing remarks of attending the funeral of an old friend, and because he moved back to his homeland but all kinds of things Not adapted. He wanted to avoid and hope to find a direction in life. This is also the cause of most people's long journeys.

The biggest struggle in the story is that the old men met two bears at night and finally stumbled and fell helplessly waiting to be rescued. Of course, the old men did not complete the journey, or even half of the journey. The two chatted about the past, the lives of each other 20 years apart, and they also joked like a naughty boy and an old man talked about madness... The camera stayed quietly, recording the endless conversation and Self-conceited memories (the best thing for us is that you don’t have to pre-emptively agree with someone else’s point of view). After being baptized by wind, snow and nature, while waiting to be rescued at night, one remembered the market that he never missed and the other remembered his wife who had been in love for twenty years. The two were obviously not in conversation, but in their own emotions. Listen to yourself. There may be no answers to the journey, but there must be clues about the answers, right?

The movie here is very empathetic. I stopped to think about every long journey, and many personnel matters were blurred, but I remember the excitement of continuing to climb the mountain when I was so tired, I remember being upset in the sofa late at night, I remember talking with my friends for a long time, and I was calm, I remember to say it myself The words touched me so much, I remember that I said that I would forget to make changes...all of it was imperceptibly afterwards, and I always changed. Look, every experience is meaningful, isn’t it magical?

When we grow up, we don’t expect many treasures in the forest. We just want to see new sprouts growing next to a dead tree, see the footprints of people walking at the end of the path, and see the gleam of light besides bears in the dark night... ...Perhaps, this is a meaning of traveling.

Said to be a hiking film, in fact, the core is still a traditional road film.

After all, it is adapted from an essay, the story is weak, but Bryson's humor is well preserved, and it is not over-interpreted and exaggerated.

A Walk in the Woods quotes

  • Bill Bryson: Writers don't retire. We either drink ourselves to death or blow our brains out.

TV Host: What will it be for you?

Bill Bryson: After this interview, probably both.

  • Bill Bryson: [At night, when a female hiker is loudly singing, in an annoying tone, at a late hour] Tomorrow morning, we get up early, before she's awake, and we get a headstart, and lose her.

Stephen Katz: That's a good idea. Better than my idea.

Bill Bryson: What was your idea?

Stephen Katz: We kill her, and steal her Pop Tarts.
