What needs to be thought about is "Who is influencing Vera"

At the
beginning, I met a kind and cheerful old woman Vera Drake (Imelda Staunton), who did her best to help people in need, caring and taking care of them. La's job is to be a maid in a family, responsible for cleaning and other tasks. She cares about everything around her, and even worried about whether she would block the way of her employer when she cleaned the fireplace. Vera often carries a package containing douche, soap, disinfectant, towel, silk grater and other tools to meet different girls. She helps young girls who are unable to raise their babies have abortions at no charge. Obviously this It is an act that violates laws and regulations and the general ethics of society. In her own words, "I have done this for about 20 years". There was still an accident. A girl almost died as a result. The police intervened in the investigation. Vera's behavior was exposed and there was a reasonable ending, but It doesn't seem so sensible.

At the beginning, I didn't like Vera very much. I thought she was too fraternity, with a smile on her face, unrealistically full of enthusiasm for everything. It wasn't until after being arrested by the police that I felt that everything was her true feelings. It was true feeling to help others, it was true feeling to take care of my mother, and it was true feeling to have an abortion for a young girl.

Imelda Staunton’s wonderful performance vividly presented the role of Vera Drake. After her behavior was exposed, Vera’s heart was different from before, no matter when and where she was. The expression in her eyes clearly and unmistakably expressed her complicated feelings about this-eyes are the window to the soul. Is it because the people around do not understand, whether it is unable to continue to help the girl in need, or whether it evokes a certain past that prompted her to do so, no one knows. When Vera's tools were presented as evidence piece by piece in the court, she seemed to say goodbye to a certain complex in her heart.

Regarding the intermediary who introduces the girl to Vera, there is no clear explanation as to why it is done. It is probably purely for money, because she collects money every time and never talks to Vera.

In the whole film, the camera is observing from the perspective of the beholder, objectively showing what happened, without explaining why it happened and what the result will be. This is exactly what director Mike Lee’s intention is, simply telling what is happening. Things that happened. At the end of the film, the Vera family (except for herself, who is serving a sentence in jail) sat together, their faces solemn and silent, and then the picture gradually faded out.

Vera does not charge a fee to help the girl have an abortion, so it must be a motive other than money. She must have done it because of something she has experienced. This question is raised in the film, but no answer is given.

You can see who Vera affects, but you can't see who affects Vera.

4.5; a subtle, impromptu effort of polarizing theme and moral ambiguity, elevated by an impeccably nuanced performance from Staunton
