The Joy Luck Club gives Americans the superiority and Chinese inferiority

When I watched this movie, I couldn't help thinking that American society and white Americans were perfect and noble. On the contrary, the social environment of Asian men and China is indeed inferior and inferior. It is undeniable that through many contrasting lenses, it does reflect the differences in culture and values ​​between China and the United States, such as different family education, love and marriage views, and open-mindedness. However, I think that many of the plots in the film are full of prejudice and deliberate derogation of Chinese and Asian men, in order to enhance the image and status of the United States and white Americans. The monologue at the beginning of the movie, a female voice "No one will look down on her, because I will make her speak perfect American English", often gives people the illusion that they can speak fluent American English. Based on American society, it seems that it is deliberately avoiding its Asian identity. This is undoubtedly putting a hat on the characters in the movie. The Chinese men in the movie are inferior to the American whites in appearance, character, quality, and abilities, forming a strong contrast. Demonizing Asian men will only enhance the "stereotype" of American audiences towards Asians. Moreover, most of the comparisons between China and the United States in the film are not based on the same time node. All are biased and misunderstood, and even unfair. In the era when the daughters lived, China and the Chinese are completely different, not as they currently remember. In fact, at the beginning of the film, the depiction of China and the United States was based on an unequal basis. We cannot compare China's past with the United States' present. In short, in my opinion, the contrast between China and the United States in the film is unreal, incomplete, and outdated. Behind the strong conflict and contrast may be "anti-Asian" and "American and white supremacism." The film gives Americans a sense of superiority, but it makes Chinese audiences unable to hold their heads up, and brings a sense of inferiority and inferiority from a nation. The values ​​revealed by the film are undoubtedly not conducive to the exchange and understanding between the people of China and the United States at that time, but deepen the misunderstanding and rejection of the two sides.
