I don't understand that the male protagonist wants to commit suicide for Mao

At first I really watched it for the sake of the male protagonist. It is said that their kissing is quite aesthetic. Later, I can only say that I feel that the male protagonist is very fragile, and I can't understand so much crying because of the teasing of my classmates. Maybe the West behaves differently from us, but I really don't see that there are too many other things that suppress the male protagonist except the neglect of his parents. In my opinion, these are not enough to make him die in the end. So it's just okay.
